SO! I've been working on some of my best advancements yet, and I'm very proud of them- but of course, I'm really bad at arts and crafts, and I don't really have the materials to build any of my designs.
Luckily, I live on an Air Force base with a workshop here which specializes in producing custom CAD files.
So my question: Is there a program, or can someone make a program, that turns SimplePlanes files into CAD schematics? I mean, I know it's a tall order, but if file converters can do it to music and video, a schematic can't be much harder, can it?
If someone could do this, I think that'd make my day. Heck, I'd pay you of I could!! Thanks for reading, at least. Hopefully someone will come along and perhaps give it a shot? ^^;
@Skua Just take one of those designs, maybe splice a few and tinker a bit ^^ The Corporeal was based off the U2 =3
@OtterOfToast I don't even know what I would get made, though - almost all my favourite planes that I've built are replicas haha
@Skua Well-- I do hope we get this off the ground, no pun intended. I really want to have a neat little model for my desk :D
@OtterOfToast it's the same for any CAM shop, so if the Jundroo team got that 3D printed, then they have a way to export to a suitable file type (likely .stl). However, Jundroo have the significant advantages of a) having access to their meshes, and b) understanding how their game works haha
@Skua Fantastic! That's a step in the right direction. Now the only thing is to get it into a CAD file... Alas, the workshop only takes CAD I think.
@OtterOfToast actually the person I was trying 123D Catch with was a mod haha. The devs are actually working on this exact feature, you can see an example in the comments of this thread
@Flightsonic @Skua You guys are pretty popular. Maybe you could link this thread to a mod or something? OH OH WAIT! Maybe we could pitch it as a suggestion in the forums? :D
@Skua true, I don't know too much in that area
@Flightsonic not easily. The files for the meshes are pretty well hidden away, and even if you got them out, you would have to get some sort of script to position them properly based on the xml. There's no button for "export to .stl" or anything like that
@Skua Oh you're using 123D, but I'm wondering, couldn't you export the models?
@OtterOfToast you could tag AndrewGarrison...
Or was it @AndrewGarrison, sorry for my confusion
@KevinMurphy I believe you did this with your Pigpen, right?
@Skua I just learned that, too.... I got it out on the runway, 58 pictures, and it picks up the mountain in the background of Write Airport XD I'm trying again but I doubt it'll work. I might try again in the editor tomorrow.
@OtterOfToast as a warning: we can't get it working well
@Skua I'm looking into it right now! If we could get it into CAD somehow, that'd make me explode with all the happy.
@Manboy2 Who do I tag? I'm afraid I don't know the chain of command around here.
@Skua wow that app? well.... dam i wonder if that would work!!!
It's funny you should ask, TheLatentImage and I are experimenting with 123D Catch just now to see if it works. It's free, so give it a shot and see if it can help
Try tagging the Mods or Devs! They could help.
