Hey guys,
I just wanted to announce that I started building a replica of the Saab JAS 39 Gripen, which is a very modern lightweight multirole fighter from Sweden.
I might even change it to be the Saab JAS 39 Gripen NG/Super-Gripen with the longer and smoother cockpit (it's a dual-seater). :)
Also here's a first look at the base fuselage and cockpit:
And here's the Gripen NG:
Feedback, suggestions and critics are appreciated! :)
@BRuthless I didn't see that. I was linked here for some reason lol
I'm doing a roleplay where I'm creating a Norwegian Swedish warplane from the year 2020 and I'm looking for inspiration@BRuthless
@Destroyerz117 @kikasshes Why on earth are you looking at this? It's like from the stone age. o.O And I actually dropped it, as the canards were pretty unstable as you might notice on my WIP version.
You have to do a Swedish paint scheme :D
Cool
@Skua More goodies:
Still needs lots of work on the wings and fuselage and it's also missing many parts, but I could take her for a spin. :)
@BRuthless sorry, that's what I meant, I worded it badly.
@Skua I don't want to blend the intakes into the body, they also stand off on the real plane. I've made the outside corners of them a bit more round and also made the intakes a tiny bit wider. :D I'm still trying to find a way to make the more bulky "extensions" of the fuselage to the left and right, they have to blend into the center fuselage very smoothly.
@BRuthless looking great! I agree with the plan to round the corners of the intakes off a bit, it would be nice if they blended in to the body more neatly
It's really hard to get the intakes right. I've been XML-editing the pieces for hours now and I am still not really satisfied with the result.
@DeezDucks I hope so. :D Are 1700 MPH without wheels and with one modded BFE120 at 3x power, one modded Blasto VTOL at 8x power and another one at 12x power something for a ground speed record? :D I have the rotator system for the canards pretty much done now, I just have to nudge them into the fuselage after I am done with the rest. One is for 5° of pitch trim (activated with AG4), one is for 15° pitch angle (always on) and one is 60° for the brake (activated with AG3). Next will be the fuselage pieces that bulge out of the main fuselage and lead into the wings. I'll also make them out of 45° angled pieces. Then the main wings and fuselage pieces over them to give them a more realistic shape, landing gear, air brakes in the back and then it's ready for some test flights. After that I'll make the pylons and the main gun, some details on the plane and the whole set of available bombs, Air-to-Ground- + Air-to-Air-missiles, external fuel tanks and the AN/AAQ-28(V) LITENING II targeting pod. :)
@BRuthless Very nice! This will be 2 times better than mine for sure!
@BRuthless .-.
@ShatterFox I'm still not fully happy with it. I may add some very thin fuselage pieces at 45° angle to the outside corners, so they look more smooth like on the real one. :D
@BRuthless Sexy :D
Intakes are done. Let me know what you think about them @Skua @DeezDucks @ShatterFox @MediocrePlanes @Wakescar @Chemicalau @Allstar @Seeras :)
I managed to fit all intakes in there to supply the main engine and both afterburner stages with enough air, so I won't have to hide more on the fuselage, which is great.
Cheers! :)
@DeezDucks I also think the real one looks just halfway done. The tiger liveries of american jets look far better. But I love those eyes on the canards and how they pop up after landing when they're braking. :D
Your's reminds me of the Eurofighter Typhoon.
@BRuthless Nice I used the same then wandered off after. I wasnt aiming to make it like the real Tiger Camo but one of my own design.
@DeezDucks There's just one little mistake I have noticed on your nice livery. The eyes of the tiger normally sit on the top of the canards and face forwards when they are angled fully downwards for braking. And normally not the whole plane is painted like that. Besides that it's a very nice design :D
And also I have made a little bit of progress on my one. Very much time was spent in getting the shape and proportions of fuselage and cockpit right. Now I am on one of the hardest parts to do with SimplePlanes-parts; Intakes. :D
I'm using real technical drawings as reference by the way. :D
Cant wait to see yours :)
@BRuthless @ShatterFox I do agree that my Gripen is not quite in proportions to the real Gripen. I was aiming for the art of the stripes which I believe I captured quite nicely. In the field of tiger stripes I believe I am a forerunner on this site.
@ShatterFox I've seen several, but none of them looks scale, so I am doing one myself. :) The best one is probably the Cinnamon Tiger one by DeezDucks, but even that doesn't look completely like the real thing, though it's still a very good plane. All these small details on the Gripen are pretty hard to replicate and will require a lot of XML-editing I guess.
It's going to be as detailed as my MiG-21Bis replica or even a bit more than that.
Theres already an extremely good Saab JAS 39 from like last month
