"In Elysium we shall meet again."

Sex: Female
Relations: Julius Averof (Father), Nicias Nicolo (lover)
Age: 14 (at death)
Rank: Private First Class
Allegiance: League of Olympia

Thera Averof was born in Deplhi and was a member of the Amazon Division, an all-female unit made up of volunteers who refused to be married. Of note, the age which a minor became an adult in Olympia was 12 for both sexes. She is best known for an action where her platoon was ambushed by two companies of the 11th Mountain Infantry Division during the battle. The unit fought to the death, and she was one of the last ones to fall.

In the action, she singlehandedly knocked out two Avenger II tanks with a rocket launcher, was wounded several times, and fought until she ran out of ammunition and grenades. She then tossed the unit's standard off the edge of a cliff into a river to prevent its capture before charging into Pilotmarian lines with a xiphos in one hand and a pair of dramchas in her other. Her brave gesture was greeted with a hail of rifle fire.

She is also known for an undelivered letter found on her body. It read as follows:

Dear Father,

I am sorry for the stress and worry my deployment has caused you. I stress and worry too, as every day, I see enemy bombers fly toward Delphi, and think only of you and mama. It fills me with dread every time I hear the terrible airplanes fly over us, knowing we cannot do anything about them but watch.

I love you and mama, but I could not bear to marry that man. I must admit, he was a good man and a fine lover. He was even my age. However, I do not believe marriage was not my fate. I was scared to tell you this earlier, but I suppose with nothing to lose, I can tell you this. When I was eight, the Priestess at the Oracle told me only one word: Amazon.

For a long time, I didn't know what to think of this, until I heard about the Amazons in religion class when I was 10. It was at this point I knew I would die a soldier. This is why I refused his hand in marriage two years ago. I didn't want to make him a widow.

The Pilotmarians are taking more and more land by the day. We are outnumbered and outgunned. Everyday, Thanatos claims a friend or two, and I know that I may be next. Do not worry, for this is my fate, and I have accepted it.

How I long to feel mama's tender hands, wiping my tears when I was hurt, or hear your jokes once more. But alas, my fate says otherwise. In Elysium we shall meet again.

Sincerely,
Your daughter, Thera.

This letter was sent by courier under a flag of truce, as the lieutenant saw it fit that the letter be delivered. It was initially suppressed by the Olympian Media Control, although it was soon released due to its effect on a test audience. In honor of her, the Olympian Navy would name several ships after her. Her mother formally christened the launch of the first ship. For all ships, the motto was "We shall meet again in Elysium."

The story was suppressed by Pilotmario War Information Control so as to not build positive sentiment for the enemy among civilian populations. However, when the letter leaked anyways, the people were angered at the fact that the Olympians would use what they believed were children (the age which children became an adult in Pilotmario was 17), and capitalizing on this, launched a campaign emphasizing the Olympian's desperation. Such was rather misleading; the minimum age to join the Olympian Army was always 12.

However, her story certainly softened the perception of the Olympians; after her story was released, Olympian POWs received better treatment beyond the basic protocols of the Geneva Convention, and was cited as a factor in public support for the 13 Points of Peace plan proposed by President Jamie Rice, where the Pilotmario Republic would rebuild Olympia after the war.

@Flightsonic I think stories like this bring the machines to life, how they fit in in the world, and their influence. After all, that is what makes some planes forgotten and others legends.
