Twenty-Three Downloads, One Upvote and Zero Comments--Why?

30.3k ChiChiWerx  8.7 years ago

While I appreciate the single upvote, how in the world does my F-4F have 23 downloads and one upvote? Plus, there's not a single other comment, good or bad. It looks like an F-4 (which the youngsters here probably do not remember--but was awesome), flies great, has triple ejector racks for the munitions and even has stab trim. Did I upload it at the wrong time? Is there some flaw of which I'm not aware? Will someone look at it and at least give me a little feedback?

Thanks man! When I do get it again on steam I’ll definitely need to ask you a few questions @ChiChiWerx

@Mustang51 if you have any questions on how to mod, access the XML aircraft files, installing Overload or Fine Tuner, just let me know.

Yeah I bought it from the AppStore for my laptop too but I still can’t mod there. I think I’m gonna but it for a third time on steam. Then it will be easier @ChiChiWerx

@Mustang51 I see you’re on iOS as well, on other platforms you could mod the weight as well.

I think maybe is partly because I add a lot of things to the plane which add detail and sometimes to make it look better they need to be quite large. Occasionally I double or triple the wings and I guess that’s where it comes from. I’m gonna try it out on my next new project and see if it’s the same weight if I don’t add a bunch of stuff. @ChiChiWerx

@Mustang51 hmmm...your perspective on weight is interesting. My experience is that weights are fairly accurate and only a limited amount weight tweaks are required to nail actual weight; including fuel. SP’s weight calculation is fairly rudimentary, there’s really no allowance for hollow or solid, for a 1x1x1 basic block, the weight is 22 lbs, the index says a basic 2x2x2 cylindrical resizable fuse should be 11 lbs, but it’s not, it’s more like 222 lbs. Also, the weight changes with size, which is cool. Anyway, I’ve found it fairly accurate, so am wondering what’s different about your builds. Are you stacking blocks inside one another? If so, that would essentially double the weight of that section...🤔

Well I don’t put unlimited fuel in but a fuel tank that has weightless fuel. At first I felt like it was cheating too but then I realised that a lot of planes that I was making (to scale) were still heavier than their real life counterparts. I figured it’s because all the blocks are counted as solids so I try to counter this by taking away the weight from the fuel. Is this a good excuse or should I try to work with regular fuel? @ChiChiWerx

@Mustang51 thanks. Your planes are pretty good as well. I have upvoted then in the past...but now I’m also following. Now, if I can convince you to discontinue the unlimited fuel trick...😉

That’s an interesting take at it. I like to do the same thing as you and I hardly ever leave an upvote without also commenting. I also find that it’s way more encouraging when someone comments what they like (or even dislike) along with an upvote. Also I don’t think I can see the F-4 you were talking about in this post but I love the one you have up on your profile now @ChiChiWerx

@Mustang51 interesting find from 2.6 years ago...hmmm, how do I feel now? Good question. Well, I think I actually care about comments more, though upvotes are appreciation for a builder’s efforts. I try and make a comment on every upvote I give because that’s the true measure that the player took the time to take a look and perhaps didn’t simply give an upvote based on a glance at the screenshot. Also, now that I have more points, I can Spotlight many more creations, which I do if the plane is very good. I like doing that and giving a word of encouragement to newer builders. Another thing to realize is a high number of followers usually results in more Upvotes...more people see your creation, more have the opportunity to upvote. So, don’t believe your hype, especially if you have many followers.

Was just wondering the same thing and stumbled upon this. Now that you get 100+ upvotes how do you feel? Hahaha

@ChiChiWerx best plane I've uploaded is probably my Aircarrier Retrofuture, 11 upvotes in 24hrs. Other than that it's usually 1-5 upvotes in the first few hours then it fades away.

Not sure, there are quite a few users with thousands of points, so maybe you have hundreds or even dozens of up votes, not sure. As for being on here to get up votes, I enjoy my plane building projects and the resulting planes, so I am simply excited to see if others appreciate my creations. I like the timing hint; though, thanks for the hint @Skua and @jsaret, I'll try to time the releases better.

@jsaret This could also be said with any other game involving player-to-player interaction.

As Skua said. If you want maximum effect, upload around 14.30 PST/PDT. Most of the users around here are American school-age children, and get dismissed around then. The east-coasters will be relaxing before dinner, and the west-coasters will be seeing them once getting home after school. Later in the morning or anytime in the afternoon during the weekend is good too. Otherwise your crafts will be passed over in the newest section.

Unfortunately, it's the nature of the site. The top designs with 50-100 upvotes sometimes get tens of thousands of downloads. I think a few factors cause it. The first will be unregistered users downloading it. Second, those who do download it may not actually test it for a while, or even if they do try it straight away, may not think to come back immediately, and then forget. Of course, a lot of it is also people that just don't care.

But yeah, basically, it's not your fault.
