Urgent : Ring Glitch!

27.4k JovianPat  8.7 years ago

I've found a glitch with rings. If you pass through a ring at high speed, the ring will register it as a Miss. This can happen on any ring, such as this :

In the picture, you can see my (tiny) plane clearly passing through the finish ring, but it registers it as a miss.
Please fix this quickly! This glitch may disrupt tournaments and other races.

@Rohan We'll look into it. Andrew does most of the website stuff...I'm sure he has seen the post, but we'll talk about it on Monday. Thanks.

There's also a problem with the website. I made a Reddit post about it. I'm /u/Rohanppdx there. @PhilipTarpley

Guys, I'm really sorry about this. It is a pretty terrible bug considering the tournaments...we'll get it fixed as soon as possible, but the upcoming tournament will not get the fix, I apologize

@BlueCobraplanes Clip each other? :P because there is a debug mode in some games where you have "noclip" to make everything pass through anything XD

@BlueCobraplanes I see... I remember playing another game (it was Bad Piggies I think) and if an object moves too fast, it'll clip into the ground. I think this is because the hitboxes are very thin.

@AgDynamics Me too. Also, there must be a few planes that will reach above 1700 mph during the sharp dive about halfway in the race. This whole race is basically a gigantic loop. Oh and you finally found it :)

@JovianPat Ohhh there, I see it. Tiny little red thing at about a 1 o'clock position inside the ring. How mysterious.

@JovianPat It's been "fixed" in the current release, but I think to fix it they just opened the completion "window" a little more, if you will, but the really fast speeds that people are reaching in testing are still too fast for the game to register properly.

This tournament is basically a drag race, so we're seeing some pretty ridiculous speeds that we haven't had to deal with in previous tournaments. That's why I'm hoping that it's either fixed or that "missed" rings are disregarded during the actual tournament.

@AgDynamics Zoom in near the middle of the picture. It's so tiny so it may be hard to see.

@AgDynamics But according to kikasshes the bug was fixed in the tournament.

Also, am I blind? I can't see an airplane in that picture at all. Where the hell is it?

I noticed this in developing my Lunar Arc entry as well. It's clearly passing through all the rings, and 3-4 of them will register as missed. I don't know that we've ever had a tournament with speeds as fast as Lunar Arc, so I'm very much hoping that this bug is either fixed or the the penalties should at least be disregarded during tournament time.

@kikasshes oh ok :P but it still happens in regular gameplay.

The bug is already fixed in the tournament.

@Spiraxd Yep. Normally planes can only reach about 1000 mph with VTOL engine.

@JovianPat Agreed, and it only happens to xml edited ones

@Spiraxd Nice info. I think this is because the plane enters the ring faster than the game expects, and the ring trigger is too thin.

@JovianPat To me any speed over 1400 mph and a slightly downward tilted angle causes it.

@Spiraxd Me too. It depends on your speed and angle.
