The Olympian Civil War

147k Pilotmario  8.7 years ago

The Olympian people are tired of defeat. As the Pilotmario Air Force turns the luscious green fields, blue seas, and great mountains of the League of Olympia into Hell, complete with cratered muddy expanses; water stained with tears, blood, and oil; and rubble; people began to point fingers at who was responsible for the failure. They congregated into two factions: the Athenians, represented by the book and pen, and the Spartans, represented by a bloodred lambda (an inverted V shape).

Athenians blamed the Spartans. They were the most warlike, and were always the first to fight and the last to lay down their arms. A call to war from them was as potent as the setting of the sun. The Athenians blamed the Spartans and their wars for glory and pillage ruined the nation.

However, the Spartans are not the sort who do not defend themselves. They believe that Athenian restraint and general opposition to war hindered the Olympian military's ability to conduct operations properly. Because of this, the Olympian military was faced with defeat because it could not execute the maneuvers it needed to do.

As the Athenians had control of the Assembly at Delphi, they voted to attempt to make peace with the Pilotmarians. However, General Andrew Kotas, a Spartan, launched a coup, forcing the Assembly at gunpoint to appoint him as Tyrant, a leader elected during crisis periods with dictatorial powers. He then used these powers to arrest Assembly members who opposed the continuation of war. He eventually dissolved the Assembly under gunpoint.

However, not everyone in the military was satisfied. While the Army, which was primarily made up of Spartans, sided with General Kotas, the Navy, which was primarily made up of Athenians, opposed the takeover. Admiral Alena Spanos vowed to uphold the authority of the Council, deeming General Kotas' appointment as illegitimate due to the use of force. The Air Force was generally split over this turn of events.

She organized a commando rescue of the Assembly, which were all held in the Santorini Prison. The operation was successful, and General Kotas was fuming when he learned that they managed to escape. The war intensified when the Assembly, aboard the flagship Olympian Navy cruiser Velos, voted to disestablish the League of Olympian and establish the Republic of Hellas, electing fellow Assembly representative Thaddeus Zane, hailing from Delos, as President. They even created a new flag, creating a blue and white flag. NOTE: This flag is identical to the current flag of Greece.

General Kotas refused their judgment, claiming the Hellenic Republic as a rogue state, and the Assembly without the power to do so. Tensions rose as Admiral Spanos ordered the whole fleet to depart. When she learned that some of the ships are not fit for travel due to age, fuel status, or repair, it was decided to scuttle them.

The now-Hellenic Navy departed for the Pilotmario Republic, sending a message to Admiral Walter O'Reilly that they plan to defect. General Kotas would not let them get away so easily, and ruthlessly attacked the Hellenic fleet. Despite the anti-aircraft fire from the ships, the Olympian Air Force pressed their attacks, and sank several ships and damaged the RHN Velos. Admiral O'Reilly decided to believe Admiral Spanos and committed Hummingbird jets from the carriers PMN Rock Island and PMN Royal Love to engage the Olympian warplanes. Due to the action of the Pilotmario Navy pilots, the fleet was spared from destruction.

The ships were immediately seized upon arrival, and the crews taken prisoner. When the Pilotmarians realized they wanted to fight with them and learned of the coup, they immediately helped organize the armed forces of the Republic of Hellas, with Olympian dissidents, Pilotmarian volunteers and willing POWs to join the fight. With this, they were able to build up a sizable force. This would include large numbers of Pilotmarian equipment, such as Hummingbird jets, Pummeler planes, and Provider cargo transports.

Not all Athenian sympathizers left with Admiral Spanos, however. Many pledged their allegiance to the Republic of Hellas, and with the Olympian Army coming for their necks, they began a guerrilla warfare campaign.

Not willing to watch their ally go down, IJ United decided to support General Kotas. The Sanctans also supported General Kotas, deeming him a lesser evil than the Republic of Hellas.

A new nation is present. The Republic of Hellas has just entered the fray, born from the fire of rebellion. New reskins will follow.

We have amassed five tons of stabilized antimatter, and have developed weapons, engines, and generator for it. We need only a pound to wipe out an area the size of Paris. @Sniper16

@Sniper16 My Victoria II tanks laugh at your pitiful wall. You think 12 inches of concrete can stop the Pilotmario Army?

We have a solution for that. It's called HESH. Turns reinforced concrete into dust and scrap metal.

@ian1547 Well, you do have the Sanctans (whatever they're worth) and the Leonans (a corrupt military dictatorship with a really, really, big army that somehow manages to be brought to a standstill by a detachment of the physically smaller Pilotmario Army).

@SPS13 Sure! The Hellenic Army needs some weapons, and the only planes we can afford to give them would get shot down in 10 minutes upon entry into a combat zone.
