How smooth does SimplePlanes run on your device?

27.4k JovianPat  8.6 years ago

Rather smooth on mine, but sometimes lags when using highest settings (except Anti-aliasing, which I almost never use). Usually 50-60 FPS, but 30-40 FPS on all high settings. Strangely the performance drops when I updated this game to 1.3 and later. Maybe this is because of the new features?
My laptop :
Acer Aspire V5-471G
- Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (Build 10586) (Originally Windows 7 Ultimate)
- Intel Core i5-3317U 1.70GHz
- Nvidia Geforce GT620M 1GB VRAM
- 4GB DDR3 SDRAM
- 500GB HDD

It looks like a business laptop with some light gaming specs, and it's almost 4 years old.

Under 300 parts runs incredibly well actually, since i'm on an intel atom x5-E-8000 with intel HD graphics 400, it can't handle over 360-ish parts, there it'll lag hard and makes it unplayable.
Now ofcourse, i have discord open all of the time, which affects performance.
usually if i wanna play real pc games, i'll use geforce now, which turns literally anything into a gaming device.
Now, this is a chromebook, so it's able to jump onto simpleplanes with a full battery and go for 3 to 5 hours. Without gaming, this thing can go for up to 10 hours on a full battery. Very reliable light gaming machine.
it even runs games while plugged into the charger well.
well, only simpleplanes runs well while it's charging.

I have to put all settings to minimum to get 200+ part-planes to work.

@JovianPat yeah. Bought the pack from Adamanta for $117 or so. Memory is super cheap right now.

    @jsaret Nice! 32GB RAM??? That's quite a lot.

SP runs just dandy on my computer:
    Late 2015 iMac 27" Retina 5K
    Mac OSX 10.11.4 (I think)
    Intel Core i5 @ 3.2GHz
    AMD Radeon R9 M390 2048MB
    32GB DDR3 SDRAM @ 1867MHz
1TB "Fusion Drive" (24GB of Flash + 1TB SATA drive, trust me, the speed boost is like flash 85% of the time for $1 000 less.)

Got it at the beginning of the month. It runs on all high settings all the time. (Including anti-aliasing, which I rarely use because then it looks a bit blurry)

Lag is non-noticeable up to 1 300 parts, then it gets really bad, really fast.

@SimpleTechAndResearch I always set in on high, but Andrew once said that on Windows, there are no difference between low and high physics.

@SimpleTechAndResearch I only use all on low when testing a plane on a race. It seems the heaviest one is Water quality. Then shadows, and also terrain.
