FLAPS - not so easy

328k SpiritusRaptor  8.7 years ago

I reckon creating realistic falps is not so easy. They go backwards and down, not really rotating around a single point. To create realiatic flaps seems to need two rotators... And then one ends up with one rotator having a fair amount of traverse - and then where to place.

Any thoughts?

    If you want to make it on a wing that is made with a wing inside fuselage blocks, you can put pistons on the back and then you can put a hinge rotator on that (you might have to put a small fuselage block on the piston) then on the hinge rotator put a semi-symmetric airfoil wing.

    When I make flaps, I get normal libraries on a vtol/trim slider.

    @SpiritusRaptor
    The way I do flaps in my planes are to make the control surfaces really big and then put fuselages on them, but that's probably useless to you...

    Looking for a smart way to do this without needing to use 4 rotators... @Supercraft888

    @SpiritusRaptor you could try these. Ive had them is my subassemblies for a while, and never had a plane to use them on. After seeing this post I decided now would be a good time to upload them. The operate the way describe flaps in this post. I hope these work for you or help you figure outhow to make your own.

    A piston can do that so it won't be a problem when. Oh never mind @Brields95

    I think we need a new part that operates like a slider.

    I was toying around with this earlier.

    I think the best way to do this is with 1 rotator and an arm made out of 0x0x0.5 fuselage(invisible) with a wing piece. If you connect the "arm" to the rotator and the wing to the arm on opposite ends of the arm, you can simulate a realistic flap motion.
