Cellestion - Orbiting Technology

162k spefyjerbf  8.6 years ago

This post will explain everything about the special gizmo that is in my plane, the "Cellestion". Any questions should be left in the comments.

Table of Contents:
1. How it works
a. center component
b. outer components
2. Why the stabilizers are needed
3. About nudging

  1. So how do you make stuff orbit your plane? Well, first you need something spinning on a rotator in the center of your plane. This will be your center component. Then, you will attach something to one side of the center component (so, attach it to the object that spins), and then nudge that something away from the center component (and, well, away from the plane in general).

a. The center component is made up of something (preferably a small fuselage block) that spins on a rotator. You can use modded rotators (that spin for a really long time) or a "free spin" rotator that uses VTOL nozzles to make the object on the rotator spin.

b. The outer components begin with a single part that is nudged away from the plane. Nudge the part to one side of the plane, and away from the plane. Then add whatever you want to that part. Then use the mirror tool to mirror that orbiting [thing] to the other side of the plane. IMPORTANT: think of your orbit path as a circle. The distance between the center component and the outer component is a radius. Make sure that radius is larger than any parts of your plane that are sticking out, so the outer (orbiting) components don't hit any part of your plane.

---Ah. that was a lot of typing... now for the less complicated info---

  1. So, why are a lot of stabilizers needed? The answer lies in the center component of the gizmo. So, all this orbiting stuff spins, right? And with every force, there is an equal and opposite force? So you could say that the center component is also spinning the plane. This counter-force is what makes the plane unstable without a lot of stabilizers.

  2. Before I explain nudging, you need to know that it is hard to nudge on mobile. See HellFireKoder's comment for more information. Also, I want to define an important word, constraints. Constraints (At least in what I am about to talk about) can be replaced with the word, connections. When a constraint is made in the airplane editor, you hear that click. Yes, that click that you hear when you place a block on another one.

Nudging essentially changes the location of a part, while keeping the constraints of the object. So, the object is moved, but it is still connected to everything that is was connected to before the nudge. So, in a way, the outer (orbiting) components behave as if they were still connected to the spinning center component.

Use Shift plus Q, E, or WASD to nudge.

------ Done.-------

I how I didn't just confuse you guys with this... haha. I will be glad to clarify anything in the comments. There is also a great chance that I made a lot of spelling and grammar errors.

If you don;t know where the heck this post is coming from, check my profile, and check out the plane on my front page. The plane's name is "Cellestion".

Wouldn't counter-rotating outer objects stabilize the plane? Very creative design, btw...

@CreeperProGaming With your Pelican, Press the space bar to show centres of - . Make sure that the centre of thrust (Yellow) is exactly where the centre of mass (Red) is.
Check out my VTOL Prop on my page to see.

Before I explain nudging, you need to know that you cannot nudge on a mobile device (Sorry)

This isn't true, you just need something to bind the nudge input to, like a keyboard, or some have even used headphone buttons (that doesn't always work though, depends on device and headphones).

If you're on Android and don't have anything to bind nudge to, you can try my fine tuner mod, though it does have some minor bugs.

@CreeperProGaming Sorry, Im really bad with VTOLs. I think asking another user would help you a lot more.

@CreeperProGaming Unfortunately not. However, I will make a subassembly of the gizmo for mobile users (or anyone that doesnt want to read this massive post) to use.
