I Can No Longer Build Planes Because of a Bug

Mod Squirrel  8.6 years ago

I have a feeling this may be to do with something on Steam's behalf, rather than the devs of SP, but when I open up the builder, the game semi freezes. As in you go to "Build and Fly" and press "play", the menu freezes and the blue sandbox build icons appear. If you hover over said icons, the highlight and you can click on them to open options for things like the view angle and which way to rotate the part, but they don't do anything. I'll likely upload a video to show the bug in detail, but it means I can't build any planes within the sandbox builder.

I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, turning my computer off and on (you know it's serious when that doesn't work), but to no avail.

Will update the post with a video for further details.

EDIT: Uploaded the video

@AndrewGarrison I fixed my problem. I remembered that I'd attempted to scale an engine, but after I couldn't find a scale option in the XML file, I thought that the XML version might have something to do with the scaling, so I changed it to a value of 4. I've gone back and deleted the file while the game was running (steam will just update the files otherwise) and now it works fine!

Thank you everyone for taking time out to help a fellow plane builder!

@AndrewGarrison I think I might have a few mods enabled. Seems odd how they would affect me now after a long time of having them enabled though!

@Squirrel So I may have outplayed your processor, but I'm sure your graphics card has more than 1 gig of ram. 😅

@Squirrel I just encountered this same issue. what you want to do is make sure you are on the most current version, then go to C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Jundroo and rename the SimplePlanes folder to SimplePlanes.Backup.

@AndrewGarrison Thanks again for helping me.

Do you have any mods enabled? Can you send us your log file via pastebin? You can find it here:

@Squirrel flash real fast? That's weird (and obviously shouldn't happen)
Sadly I'm not a computer genius, I only know the 1's and 0's

@Squirrel Then it is a issue with either a driver or just game compatibility that probably will be fixed!

@Flightsonic Putting it into windowed mode made the screen flash extremely fast. Fortunately, I don't have any kind of epilepsy, but I felt ill just looking at it!

@DarkLithium My laptop is an Asus. Has 8GB of RAM. The only let down from a specs point of view is the processor. For some reason, some bright spark decided it would be a good idea to put in a low end i5 clocked at 1.80 Ghz with a £500+ laptop. Anyway, even then, it should still be enough and has been enough to run the game.

@AndrewGarrison @PhilipTarpley Is there anything I can do to solve the problem that I haven't yet tried? Thank you in advance!
