OVERVIEW:
The RAI-19 Water Buffalo is an acceptable aircraft. Although takeoff is a bit long due to poor engine acceleration,
COMBAT PERFORMANCE:
The aircraft's range under a full combat load is considered adequate. The autopilot is finicky due to the very sensitive pitch controls at speed. At speed, it is incredibly maneuverable. The J90 turbofan's restricted airflow severely limited their power.
The air brakes were appreciated, but would have preferred them connected to the VTOL slider.
INTEGRAL FIREPOWER:
The three Mk 2 machine guns in the nose are well-concentrated, but lack the volume of fire the Pummeler and the anti-tank ability of the Boar.
EXTERNAL LOADS:
The external weapons load is far superior to that of the Pummeler and is comparable to the Boar. Its height has the potential to be an issue, but crews were able to manhandle munitions.
DURABILITY:
The type appeared quite durable to battle damage due to the multiple redundancies in the design. Asymmetrical thrust was an issue, however, and the engine placement has the potential to melt through the wing if the engine goes on fire. The engine cones provide limited protection from shrapnel.
VISIBILITY:
Cockpit visibility is very good frontally thanks to its short nose. While the Boar is slightly superior in this regard, it is far better compared to the Pummeler. The canards are still obstructive.
LOGISTICS:
The podded J90 turbofans allow for easy maintenance in the field, and due tot the pod's design, were very easy to remove from the aircraft. The hardpoints were all very accessible.
OFF THE BOOKS:
After the death of Capt. Amy Winters, all test pilots refused to test this aircraft. This aircraft was tested instead by the aircrews of the 3rd Navy Point Reserve Fighter Division.
Well, this is for a competition, so I'm doing it only for the planes who applied. Check out my Close Support challenge. @reCarn
Well I made this and then the update came out so the canards are completely useless now with the addition of elevator trim.
@ElGatoVolador Yep! It's for my Close Support/Attacker challenge. Due date is 5/24.
I like how entertaining and believable your writing is. Can I have you evaluate an aircraft of mine once i've done something uploadable?
@Pilotmario ,is this some sort of challenge? It's very entertaining to read these. If it is a challenge, please let me know.
