How do you create custom shapes/pieces?

4 jjchvl  8.6 years ago

New to the game and enjoying it a great deal. My only issue is that I see lots of people making really awesome designs but using shapes and pieces which seem to have been custom created. How do you create such custom designed pieces? I see also how people integrate things like an engine into a section that normally wouldn't allow that engine to attach(Like literally placing the engine partially "inside" another piece. Can anyone help me with this? Maybe point me to a YouTube tutorial or set of instructions. Ive done a search on the subject and come up with extremely little and nothing that's been helpful. Thank you.

@BaconEggs Ok, too cool! Now we're getting somewhere. There are probably other blocks like the "fuselage block" that can be edited as well but this gets me started. The rest surely amounts to exploration and experimentation. I also figured out how to "nudge" things into custom positions. Thanks a ton! As simple as this game seems "at first", its definitely one of the better building games out there in as far as what can be done with it and the physics. The tutorial needs some work though. Anyway, thanks again! Ill be spending the rest of the evening making things now :)

@BaconEggs Thank you for the reply. I am using SimplePlanes on PC so Ill try what you said. See, I noticed that the nose cone piece has an option to change its dimensions under "part options" but there are no such options for other pieces like the plain old blocks. Also, I went under my Steam menu and found "SimplePlanes_ModTools" but cant make heads or tails out of it. When I bring it up in notepad its just a bunch of jibberish computer language and I don't know what to use to run it. Id really REALLY like to get more into this "game" but without understanding how to change parts to make what I see everyone else making, its quickly becoming more frustrating than fun.

Place a fuselage block, highlight it, and hit the "part options" and hit "edit fuselage shape".

EDIT: If you're on PC, you can nudge parts with Lshift + qweasd. If not, fuselage blocks naturally allow clipping, especially in the editor.
