I present to you, a list of things that players with a lot of points do, that some small player do not. If you are a smaller player, you most likely do some (or all) these things, and therefore this post might not apply to you.
So here's the list, with descriptions for each item.
Large Players use fuselages and structural panels. If you look through the list of players, the vast majority of 3000points and above do not use many normal blocks.
Large Players often have their own building style. Ok, sometimes that style is just "good" and "detailed, but some other players have their distinct building styles. Building styles include color schemes, basic plane shape, and the use of panels and fuselage blocks.
Large players make relevant forum posts. Making a relevant and insightful forum post will attract some attention to your profile, and it isn't frowned upon.
So next time, instead of begging for upvotes in a forum post (This most likely doesn't apply to you), make a forum post that is awesome, and does not reek of self promotion.
Large Players sometimes host challenges. If you host a cool challenge, you might get a LOT of points from upvotes, and successors. The tricky part is making an original idea for the challenge.
Large Players take effective screenshots. Its an unfortunate truth; for most players, looks are everything. Your plane might have the best performance. It might demolish every plane known to man in dogfights, but unfortunately, the description that you put for that plane doesn't appeal to the eye as much as that screenshot.
Thank you for reading. This should be a to-do list. This post has been made to combat the problem of dissatisfied small users feeling like it is impossible to get any upvotes.
(this may help with the screenshot thing.)[https://www.simpleplanes.com/Forums/View/178069/How-to-effectively-take-screenshots-of-your-plane-for-uploading]
I do
I used fudge parts and panels at 15 points default blocks look blaaa and ramp drag points up including the weight.
My challenge is a failure so fare with 16 downloads and 0 up votes. It is original too. :(
I guess I cam most easily sum my style up as "spam fuselages until you get what you want," at least when I build high-detail creations. (that I never upload because I'm too scared ;-; sorry i'll upload my fenrir one day) Plus, it helps with making sure I have enough spots to ballast my build from when I need to.
For reference of my detailed builds, look at this thing, 44 or so parts through when I took it; http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=685470614
I also try to care about size, hoping a human can fit inside, but then sometimes it's hard to judge without easy access to the dummy model..
I use the new fusalge blocks and a little tiny modding and panels too
I make some planes that are detailed and some that aren't so not sure what my style would be. I know
Rhys's Style
My style are simplistic replicas. Not the stupid amounts of detail @SpiritusRaptor puts into all his fantastic planes, but still accurate replicas. :3
@JacobHardy64 @jsaret Yeah.... lol
I don't know what my building style is either tbh
I take terrible screenshots ...
I don't use panels just fuselage blocks mainly
@JacobHardy64 LOL too true
Buzzfeed title XD
I guess my building style is simple, but functioning
Example
I just post planes for fun
I test them to make sure they work and I add a bit of detail
Not to much to affect the aerodynamics of the plane though
