So, this is a first for me. It's slightly buggy in that if you fly at about 15,000 feet you'll probably have a seizure due to the water flashing. But other than that I was surprised I'd made a map of this size which causes little in the way of lag for me.
So, what can you do in this map?
To be fair, not a lot. I made a crude road on two of the islands (see the locations menu) and I made a mountain which turned out accidentally to be about 30,000 feet in height, so I did the natural thing to do in that situation and put a crude runway on it and aptly named it "The Leap of Faith". I don't take off in it though, I actually use it to throw vehicles off to their impending deaths. Because nothing says a durability test like throwing an object off a 30,000 foot high mountain.
The rest of the map is just a series of winding valleys which to be fair are quite fun to fly about in.
I also named two islands that were inspired by the community, naturally they are:
- John Cena Land
- Isle of Dank Memes
Aside from the fits caused by the disco water, I quite like this island and will likely continue to update it with more islands and maybe a few physical objects you can casually fire things at (I have found a way of doing that, but it's a bit temperamental).
Anyway, here it is:
It works on Mac so yee yee bois
@Squirrel please do it for android i want to throw my cars from the mountain all old mod maps wont work in 1.4
@NathanMikeska Issue with steep terrian drop offs is it's hard to get back on land from the water
@DarkLithium Not sure what it could be then... I'm not exactly a wiz at this, so there's not really a lot I can do with regards to it.
@BaconAircrafts Thank you!
@NathanMikeska Thank you for the advise and compliment. I think I've solved it. I deleted the sand base of the map (to hide the fact it's made up of separate terrain parts.With hindsight, I should have just changed the position of it along the y axis, but I deleted it instead. Ah well. Currently adding some rigid body objects to make destructible bridges etc.
Looks great! Regarding your 'disco water', I think you may be experiencing some z-fighting. There isn't much precision in the z-buffer at great distances so two objects trying to render to the same spot will fight with each other. One thing that might help is steeper terrain drop-offs underneath the water. Shallow water will result in a lot of z-fighting in the game.
Oh, and are you having problems with the terrain being shiny? I can't tell from the screenshot, but if you are change the property in the terrain settings that is
built-in standard diffuse
tobuilt in legacy diffuse
that, as well as my previous comment, is what I say to practically all map mod sees and should be written down somewhere.Hey! Nice. About those water issues - did you put a light in it like it said in the video? If so, that's probably the problem. Since ages ago Simpleplanes has had its own lighting system, separate to the map. Delete the light and see what ya think.
Randy Orton island
@Squirrel It has one of the most interesting airports and final approaches. Very creative!
@Squirrel Thats one fine map fella! I love it!
@Squirrel Weird since on the normal maps I don't spin out easily like I do on your map!
@DarkLithium I'm pretty sure the friction is the same as the normal maps. As for the off road stuff, it's a low poly model, which helps it prevent lag, so there's a limit to how much detail I can go into. That said, think of this as a Beta. I still have a few plans for this map, and I've still got a few things I need to fix with regards to the disco water. But I'll try and add a bit more with regards to the off road stuff.
@Squirrel Off-road area doesn't feel off-roady. Also the friction is really low!
@Squirrel I've started a new one myself.
GOD!
@Squirrel cool!
@Squirrel @HellFireKoder May be able to help with your water issues
@JMicah4
Pictures anyone since I can't download it today?
@JacobHardy64 I've done all I can to prevent it (to my knowledge, which is very little so far), but I think it's to do with the overlapping terrain. Might sort it out in a later build.
@Squirrel disco water is barely noticable in low setings (I do it for FPS, I use high physics though)
@IStoleYourMeme @JacobHardy64 Glad to hear you both like it!!
IT IS AMAZING!
