Something i Just Dont Get

First of all this post is not meant to offend Anyone! its just an observation...

So if your american and say your at a Bakery in *France, and you
" je voudrais un peu de pain'' meaning i would like some bread, and if you dont use a French accent they look at you like this !But! you never see foreign people using a Generic american accent when they speak english, I just dont get it.

Once again this is just an observation im not trying to start arguements just trying to be funny

I feel like its because when im spoken to in a harsh accent and I don't understand then I don't want to speak in my accent (a wee bit Irish) and not be understood, and when I speak in a different language, I really hope I'm understood BC if I'm speaking a different language, then I've left america and am probably on my way to being beheaded by some jackwipe in a turban screaming allah. No offence.

Interesting. It's been too long since I've been to a place where I speak the primary language (if it isn't English), so I wouldn't know.
