Close Support Aircraft Performance Trials: LiquidFox XA-10 Thunderbolt III

OVERVIEW:
The LiquidFox Aircraft Industries XA-10 Thunderbolt III is a powerfully-armed strike aircraft, with excellent performance and survivability. However, its internal firepower and low-speed performance left much to be desired.

COMBAT PERFORMANCE:
The aircraft's range under a full combat load is considered barely adequate. Performance under load was excellent, able to reach over 600mph under 75% power at 1000ft. Visibility was considered excellent, comparable to the Boar. However, at slower speeds, the type's pitch controls were sluggish and far less responsive compared to the roll controls.

The flaps and spoilers attached to VTOL as well as the Trim airbrakes were excellent. It was suggested to link the airbrakes to the spoilers (VTOL UP) and install more airbrakes.

INTEGRAL FIREPOWER:
The single Mk 6 machine gun was considered inadequate for both anti-personnel and anti-armor roles, and paled in comparison to the immense anti-personnel capability of the Pummeler Mk 2, the exceptionally powerful Mk 7 on all marks of the Boar, and the balanced approach to the Pummeler Mk 4.

EXTERNAL LOADS:
The external weapons load is superior to the Pummeler, and comparable to the Boar.

DURABILITY:
The type was a very survivable design, with numerous redundancies and a large amount of armor around the engines, fuel, and cockpit. It was deemed superior to both the Pummeler and the Boar in this respect.

VISIBILITY:
Cockpit visibility is excellent, comparable to the Boar.

LOGISTICS:
The use of the BFE150 engine was acceptable, given extensive experience with the type. However, the twin engine arrangement doubles the maintenance load. This is considered acceptable due to the dramatically increased survivability. Ground crews familiar with the Pummeler found the engines harder to access, but ground crews familiar with the Boar found no issues.

Ground crews found it similar to the Boar's general layout, and those familiar with the Boar were at ease with the Thunderbolt III.

OFF THE BOOKS:
Engineers found it similar to a Pre-Event type known as the A-10 Thunderbolt II, better known as the "Warthog". As the Boar was based off of this aircraft, it was understandable that the aircraft would be similar in layout. Ground crews referred to it as the "Super Boar".
