The importance of...

Mod TheLatentImage  8.6 years ago

Comments.

Everyone enjoys getting upvotes, sure. But comments are where the real joy from uploading a design comes from. Getting feedback in the form of a comment is much more powerful than an upvote in some ways. It shows that someone took the time to download the design, to look at it, to test it out.

It only takes a few minutes to do so, and another few minutes to type up your thoughts. It is a bit disheartening to sometimes spend dozens of hours on a design and get the feeling that someone couldn't take 5 minutes to check out your work and leave a comment about it.

When you do leave a comment, don't just say something like "cool plane" or "nice work". Leave a comment detailing what you thought was cool about it, or what you thought was nice about it. Leave specifics so that the uploader can get some satisfaction out of knowing that someone noticed the details that they may have literally spent hours and hours on getting just right.

If everyone would start doing this more, then everyone would benefit from it because everyone would be leaving better comments about others work as well as getting better comments about their work too . It would be a win/win for everyone.

Just my thoughts on comments in general.

Hey, feel free to leave a... ummm.... comment with your thoughts.

I wholeheartedly agree. Sure, points are nice, but when my plane needs some work and I ask the community... I just get more upvotes...

Hey, pressing a button is fun.

This is very true. I would rather have 5 different comments than 5 upvotes.

I agree with this so much! Just that one comment on my three wheeled pick up truck, and those 5 upvotes really mean alot.

@BroPlanes nothing that I've said here is mandatory. Everyone is free to do and say as they like provided that it falls within the guidelines as set forth by the devs. This is just my opinion on how people should approach commenting on user uploads. Whether or not someone chooses to do so is up to them, but in my opinion it makes for a better gaming experience for everyone.

@TheLatentImage Ah, I need to go through the process of authorization first. I tried logging in on chrome one day and got a whole bunch of jargon about that not being my usual method of logging into SPs and having to go through steps to authorize it.

@DragonAerotech I dislike using the steam browser. The method I prefer to use is to browse simpleplanes.com on an external browser (chrome in my case) and copy the url. Then go into the editor and ctrl+v. It will load the design right up. Then when you've formed your thoughts on it, you can tab out and comment.

I'm guilty of this as well, usually I drop in to see what other folks are doing, when I am thoroughly enthrawled with a design oftentimes I'll DL it here on steam, play with it, get a feel for the design, study how it ticks, etc. - unfortunately often in the midst of that I forget who the designer is and when I go back into the Steam browser it goes immediately to the front page anew. -_-

It breaks my heart when I ask for comments and such, and like I have a plane I think needs work but no one comments.. A few upvotes but no comments.. No feedback... Nothing.. And it really... Really hurts... Which is kinda why I haven't been active.. It really hurts me now just thinking of it, cause you know I spend a ton of time in my builds and to get no feedback, makes me feel WORTHLESS and as if I mean nothing to the community..

@AndrewGarrison I'm using Opera to download. Later I access them via ES file explorer. I never had that problem before 1.4.

@EternalDarkness That sounds very odd. What browser are you using? On Android it shouldn't be downloading files.
