Yeah I hit gold a little over a month ago, and then shortly after, migrated to windows and my "planes" keep getting better since. Look at my posts since gold statue dragonalis, then look at the ones prior.
Uploading, commenting that's the way to get points on the website. the plane's only fuel the points.
You got to keep people coming back to your page by clicking on your name hopefully in a comment or something, then seeing something that you've spotlighted and hopefully the posts and then up voting.
It doesn't matter what time it comes out because they can do that now they can do that a year from now.
Don't get down! It might just be bad luck and timing, look at my latest post for example, I posted my U-wing at 8:15-ish EST, that barley got any upvotes, maybe I should post later or earlier, it also comes down to the thumbnail, the thumbnail is what drives the audience towards your aircraft, try to get the least amount of background, and more aircraft along with its interesting features.
Also my post are more frequent, I started a challenge https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/xboC5d/Frame-Challenge and I have been posting in the forums and following people as much as I can. It has helped.

@Kerbango Yeah, but your 3,000 poi ts ahead of me. . . oh well
I have 120 planes, cars and boats, BTW. not counting parts and others fixes.
Basically, I like to think of the website as a social game. Separate, but connected to simple planes.

@Supercraft888 Yeah, sometimes I just hit the nail on the head, others I miss by a mile
I try to post at 7:30 to 8:00 but I want to experiment since this time frame seems to no longer work
