Why Not Trim for Trim?

There seems to be an aversion to using trim for trim among the SP community, as if designing an airplane that doesn't need to be trimmed up is something of an accomplishment...I'm confused by this, due to the fact that all real-life airplanes have and use trim to ensure they can take off and land at a reasonable speed, fly at much faster speeds and compensate for C.G. shifts. Instructor pilots preach the mantra: "trim is your friend" because pilots, when hand-flying an aircraft, are constantly adjusting and fine-tuning the trim setting. It seems that a good portion of the SP community loves to use that trim slider for flaps, gear, anything BUT trim.

P.S. In real life, trim slider up means nose down trim (go faster) and trim slider down means nose up trim (go slower)...quite a few builders use the opposite approach. It's caused me a time or two to end up in a fiery ball at the end of the runway when flying someone else's build...:)

I use trim all the time. I have it set to 'I' and 'K', and have it the same as roll and pitch. It's especially useful when you have an aircraft that's fast and also has a low stall speed
