I'd skip the red outline. While regs stated that the it was official, some crews didn't get the memo, didn't have the paint on hand or simply refused to put any red near their insignia (friendly fire concerns? general hatred for the IJN? not sure.)
Whichever you choose, she looks great, and I really like it when skilled builders choose under appreciated planes like this one.
