Emergency Landing #2: Flying In Sparks

You've been waiting for this for 2 weeks,it's EL2,Flying In Sparks! Sorry for the long wait,I worked on this story for 2 weeks. This time I'm not going to use time,I'm going to tell it like a very, very long story. This is also probably the longest forum ever(what do you think I've been doing for 2 weeks?).

Simple Airlines Flight 924 had taken off from Wright Airport,Wright Isles at 8:46 PM,en route to Avalanche Airport,Snowstone. Then halfway through the flight....

There was no unusual weather forecast, yet the crew watched a weird lighting display. Millions of glowing sparks were hitting the windshield of their 747-400. Looking out the windows, the captain saw the engines and wings surrounded by a bright glow. Then, the right outer engine backfired, surged, and died. In the passenger cabins, the view was terrifying. Acrid black smoke poured into the cabin. A minute after the first engine failure,a second engine died, followed by the remaining 2. In the quiet, the captain pushed the nose down to maintain speed. The glide from the cruising height of 37,000 feet to sea level would take over 20 minutes,so there was time to restart the engines. During the glide, radio links were weak,or useless. The electronic readouts on the navigation equipment made no sense, and the lights in the cabins flickered on and off. The captain turned the plane back to Wright, knowing there were mountains in the way,so if they went below 1,000 feet, they would have to ditch in the sea. For 12 minutes, the captain flew the 747 with no power. Then,at 3,700 feet,an engine roared back to life. The captain pulled the nose back a little and reduced the rate of descent. If he dumped some fuel he could keep flying with 1 engine, but still not enough power to clear the mountains,so it still meant ditching in the sea. Then, 1 by 1,the other engines started up.

The captain landed the plane safely at Wright, though he had to shut off an engine on the way. He could hardly see through the windshield,as it was white and frosty with the surface etched away with sparks.

Later examination of the aircraft found that Flight 924 had flown through the ash cloud of Kraklabloa,a volcano. The cloud had not shown up on radar because the ash particles were too small. The effect on the engines was like throwing sand on a fire, and starting them up again was only possible once the plane had passed below the cloud.

Hope you enjoyed this! Sorry the story was so long but I like details. Wait for Emergency Landing #3!
