Plus, if someone else were to ever use that computer, you could let them use the Mac App Store version while you used the Steam one. That way, all planes and downloads will be separate.

Of course they will, just nicely explain it to them. Explain what mods are and why you want them. And never say things like “I know you don’t understand”; that insults their intelligence.
