Suspension help

3,802 PuhBuhGuh  6.9 years ago

Apparently I can't build suspensions in this game. I can get them to work in real life, I can get them to work in other games, but not here. I'm not blaming the game, but can anyone give me or link me to a prebuilt suspension or something of the nature? Whether it be live axle, MacPherson strut, pushrod, whatever. I just need a suspension that actually suspends the car.

@PuhBuhGuh Nah, I've found that without suspension, it gives it waaaay better turning power.

@Jetpackturtle I know what you meant, but even those should have a really tight suspension

Here's double wishbone push rod suspension test car. it's quite old design, so I didn't know about modding yet. full in-game build. looks ugly but actually works.

this. not entirely mine but the suspension is easy enough to copy for your own designs.

@PuhBuhGuh I'm talking about tournament cars, like Gold Prix, etc. Those tracks are completely flat.

@Jetpackturtle Appreciate it! Really though, even your track cars should have some suspension, even if its a super stiff pushrod.

Don't do inbuilt suspension if you are building any kind of off-road car.
I either use my buggy suspension, it's versatile and easily modifiable, or one of the two following setups:
    1: Spring and Wheel.
Connect a small piece of fuselage to a wheel, then a spring vertically.
Pros: Easy to make, versatile, easily hideable.
Cons: Sort of fragile and looks simple.
2: Bar axle and Two Springs
Make a long, thin rod out of fuselage and attach the wheels to either end. Attach springs to top of axle.
    Pros: Strong and better looking,
Cons: Little flex and hard to hide.

Another setup is more difficult but more rewarding.
I got the idea from the back of my RC car
This is a setup that is great for offroading and looks great, but it's hard to build.

On the other hand, if you are building a road car:
Tournament racers for Track: (Gold Prix, etc)
    No suspension.
    Supercar and other road racers:
    Suspension: 250
    Damper: 250
    Trucks and Civilian:
    Suspension: Default
    Damper: 70-100

Hope you like my (rather lengthy) post on suspension. Cheers :D

@Leehopard your tanks suspension seemed awesome, maybe you can offer some insight?

@chancey21 It was literally just a very loose frame. Not much of anything, just a couple of tubes and a poor attempt at a rear trailing arm and fron MacPherson struts.

Tag me on the unlisted car and I can see what I can do...
