I don’t know how to describe what it is but the M1 Abrams has it,
I think it’s something to do with releasing pressure so the gun doesn’t explode when it fires, thanks in advance :D
What is the thick bit in the middle of some tank guns?

I believe it's called a bore evacuator. It's used to get the toxic gases out of the gun so it doesn't go back into the tank itself and kill the crew.
@Maxwell1 lol
It’s there to look cool.
Makes sure you don’t get that smok in ur turret cabin. Also depends on the gun your using. Mostly seen with guns above 75mm
@Aarons123 Ohh
@SoulWarden as Gestour said, it stops poisonous gasses from entering the tank after the gun is fired
Fascinating!
@Gestour
A muffler?
@Gestour cool
Bore evacuator
