The world is dead, it has been for decades, It wasn't nuclear war, it wasn't global warming... initially. Klebsiella planticola was the name of our apocalypse, It was everywhere, everywhere that was green mind you. This was a bacteria that lived on all plant life, and helped decompose it, it's also a cousin of a dear friend of humans.
the year is 1992, humanity was on the precipice of industrial, technological, and biological ideas, and the attempt to combine all three was their downfall:
Burning off dead plant material, as was the standard practice, severely pollutes the air and damages the lungs of farmers, something that had been done for thousands of years pretty much... and well, that was all to change thanks to our dear little friend K. planticola, scientists wanted to alter it genetically to make use of its sludgey byproducts, ethanol, a promising fuel of the future... that and it made great for booze. The byproduct of this promised "superbacteria" would have Be distilled into gasoline, sowed as fertilizer, burned as cooking fuel, etc, etc. however you know what they say - "The road to hell is paved with good intentions"
This is where the beginning of the end started, where all life on earth ended as we knew it. Test samples of this modified bacteria worked amazingly, it was proven to be the miracle to pollution issues and fossil fuels, however what wasn't checked? The test subjects never once tested the bacteria on live plants. You see, this variant of K. planticola didn't have the patience to let living plant life die before it decided to turn it into a nice sludgey goo, and to top it off, it itself wouldn't die either from the ethanol. By the time that the in lack of better terms "Horrifying" issue had been discovered, it was far too late, very quickly it became apparent that most, if not all flora was on a one way ticket to Doomsville.
what seemed like a rapid and mortifying end to all ground life didn't seem to concern humanity enough as vehicles were still being used, powerplants, and many other polluting things still happened, and with no trees to deal with that carbon dioxide?
Acid rain became the everyday norm, civilization as we know it was long gone, think of the world as a wetter mad max... for now. Ocean flora was still working to the best it could to keep everything afloat, however even they were not enough to support the sheer amount of humans that still survived, leading to all but a small handful of people that were strong enough to face certain death.
Now, the year is 2067, acid rain is no longer an issue, the rivers, land, oceans though... are still too dangerous to survive on. How do humans survive? The skies, the clouds are the only safe way of collecting water.
Anyone skilled at controlling aircraft are considered the saviors to humanity and are often leaders of entire factions. Jet engines are a thing of the past as they require too much upkeep in an otherwise desolate land, so Prop engines rule the skies, however as clouds are invaluable, skirmishes in the skies are common with many different factions warring over the priceless water.
This roleplay would take place over the North American continent mainly as it's the terrain I'm most familiar with with, players would be able to create their own factions or team up, the plans include a possible Multiplayer map that supports mods (if possible, not too sure), a discord where everything can be discussed among teams and what not, and a territory map.
@BACconcordepilot yeah, but I was meaning in the food issues, not the gas.
@BACconcordepilot well yes, but at that point its much like a mad max, near cannibalistic situation.
I’m all dystopia’d out. Time for some bright futures if you ask me.
