There should be a separate button for airbrakes and ground breakes. The break button turns off the entire engine when you just need to slow down your plane or any vehicle. There can be a separate button for turning off the engine.

Just have an air-brake set on an input like, Activate1.
Press F10
BTW I'm pretty sure it's a brake. XD
If you use flight stick that isn't a problem at all.
The current break button is F10. I don't see anything wrong with it's breaking functionalities.

You can do it in xml by changing the input if that is what you mean.
