So I've been looking into this a bit and all of the data I was able to google for the existence of "burst fire modes" indicates that this was not a standard feature to have on planes in WW2. I know that there was a bullet inhibit for firing through the propellers but every thing I have found in looking for this specific feature has been fruitless. Been looking up P51 and M2/AN and there is mention of barrels melting if fired too long which actually supports the idea that it was completely at the discretion of the pilot. Course if you just wailed on the guns you'd only have like 30 sec of ammo.
So my point is this:
1: The wing guns are WAY too big in there model. They'd be like a 3" barrel as they appear in game. I scaled them to .26,.26,.8 and they feel pretty close to a .50cal size to me.
2: Since I'm making them the right size I should make them fire correct for period too right? Well here is the rub. From what I can tell the wing guns are suppose to be .50cal. Ok. So default damage=40, Muz Velocity=adjusted to 890, Rounds/sec=adjusted to 13.33, Bulled scale=adjusted to .26,.26,1; tracer color=could do FFA000 for orange or maybe 909000 for dark since you wouldn't fire tracers every single shot. All thats fine, but I get to burst and wait time and I just don't know what to do with it. As far as I can tell this should be: Burst=as long as you hold the trigger, Time between burst=until you pull the trigger again. Any thoughts?
p.s. I'm tuning my GAU-19/A x2 vs. the M2's x6 to see how effective they are in comparison. Gotta say pretty impressive between the two. 6x M2/AN .50 cal @ 800rpm firing on the deck of the USS Tiny did the job in just 25sec with out burst. With just a third the fire power the 2 GAU-19's did it in just 5 more seconds, but at 2000rpm. Either way the math adds up to about 2000 rounds to take down the Tiny.
Set burst count to the size of the aircraft's ammo supply for that gun, and time between bursts to a lot.
i made an Aircraft mounted m2 browning, pretty realistic and it runs out of ammo, but because of simpleplanes physics you have to keep firing for that to happen because it resets when you sttop firing.
