An oversimplified demonstration: sexy airliner airfoils

Mod BaconAircraft  6.4 years ago

This is only a demo. A detailed tutorial building a less complex wing will come soon.

Step 1: Wingbox building

Build a wingbox suitable for your aircraft

For demonstration purposes, I have colour coded the different parts of the wing.
Red: Leading edge/slats
Beige: Front Paneling
Grey: Main curve / superstructure
Beige: Rear paneling
Green: Trailing edge / control surfaces.

Step2: Wing Segment 1

Plan and build the first segment of the wing.

Step3: Wing Segment 2

Plan and build the second segment of the wing.

Step4: Wing Segment 3

Plan and build the third segment of the wing and wingtip.

A more detailed tutorial of a simpler wing will come out soon.

In the meantime people who want to build airfoils similar, and wants to make them planned and a smooth as possible, now it's a good time to review basic trigonometry.

Detailed aircraft in this game only look good from a distance anyway. It’s impossible to make a perfect nose or wing without scripts. I just focus on making things functional in SP. For my RC planes and quad designs I make things much more sophisticated @BaconAircraft

@LiamW Yeah. No worries. I tried to make it as realistic as possible in other aspects. I understand its not supposed to be symmetric. and to an extent it kinda bothers me too. But I'd rather continue on this project than to redo the entire airfoil. Also, i dont mind people using single elliptical fuselages with wings. As long as they're not too disproportional. In my opinion, any wing with the thickness of 0.5 or lower as a proper excuse to be matched with a single fuselage as it still looks pretty good.

Lol, look at my aircraft and it’s even worse. The few times I have used a wing other than stock, it’s been with single elliptical fuselages. It doesn’t bother me at all, I just like to point it out lol @BaconAircraft

Yeah. Symmetric. Mute also have pointed it out already. I started the project 8 months ago just to build a wing for practice, and it just kinda turned into a shape suitable for a jet. I just used it cuz I was too lazy to redo the whole thing just to make it semi-symmetric. Maybe you should check out my other airliner wing so you no longer become visually triggered. @LiamW

The airfoil you used is for barely-subsonic, ultra-aerobatic aircraft
