Long story short, the COM should be directly in front of the main wings and the main landing gear (main landing gear is usually even with the main wings). Try to put the COL two or three blocks behind it. The further apart you make the COM and COL, the more stable (and nose-heavy) the plane will be. The closer together, the more agile (easy to turn up or down) the plane will be.
