For the past few weeks or so, Rainier Aerospace has been working on a relatively secret project that was a lot more under raps compared to the QF-65 Program. Outside of Rainier Aerospace, in the public eye, there were only rumors and a few mentions of such a weapon system being developed & worked on. That, coupled with a few sightings over eastern Washington state of a very small UCAV being spotted flying around the Okanogan MOA (Military Operations Area) during dawn & dusk hours.

Today, Rainier is officially announcing the design, concept, and aircraft behind Project Skeeter, the QF-85 Goblin II! Named after the failed McDonnell XF-85 Goblin parasite fighter, the QF-85 takes on it's designation/number and name, as the QF-85 marks the first successful/perfected & practical parasite fighter design. The Goblin II is a nod/homage to the first attempt at a parasite fighter jet & it's forefather.

The idea behind the QF-85 is to be a UCAV that can be air-launched whether being slinged under a heavy aircraft such as a bomber, AWACS, or cargo/transport, or being piggy-backed on a heavy fighter like the F-22 or F-15.

However it's more than just being an air-launched fighter. The conceptual system involved in the QF-85 is quite radical and a new concept in SP (at least from what I've seen). If the conceptual system works well as intended, the QF-85 will be about 60-80% autonomous & independent from user control. Once air-launched, the QF-85 flies after a target the player designates/"paints" for it, and when within range, the player manually fires it's laser before the UCAV collides with the target. After the target is destroyed, the player designates a new target for the UCAV. The UCAV will essentially be a flying TLS/laser.

The QF-85 itself is finished, but the missile guidance system still needs to be implemented before it's finished and fully revealed to the public.
