Gear Doors Help Needed

19.2k klm747klm747  6.5 years ago

Good evening everyone! I made this post to ask about help with gear doors. I would like to make doors with a mechanism as simple as possible that opens the doors and then closes them with only one press of the G key. When the key is pressed again, I want the doors to open again, allow the landing gear in, and then close right behind them. I don't want to have to use any complicated mechanisms to do this, just a few rotators. I found some mechanisms, but they are all complex and require hollow body aircraft. Thanks in advance for you help! (BTW my computer is terrible and can't run more than 300 parts smoothly.)

@CursedFlames Thanks! I'm trying to keep the part count under 500, but it might just go over with the windows and things. I actually found the answer with drag earlier today, but thanks for the feedback anyway. I appreciate that you took the time out of your day to help me. The plane currently has 260 parts and will be finished in time for my 1000 points special. Wingflex has been reworked, and reversers now actually do something. All the CG issues have fixed, and now it can reach it's proper cruising speed of 500 MPH when at an altitude of 35k. It's top speed (reworked version) at sea level at level flight is about 250. More than enough. The gear still wobbles a little bit when on the ground, I can fix that by changing the strength of the Gear shocks. Speedbrakes have been added, and no-step lines have been removed (just found out that they aren't actually there on the real plane). Since this is my first really detailed plane, I want everything to be perfect. Now all I need to do is finish the outside features and have the plane ready in time for the 1000 special (not to mention actually getting there). I'm currently running at an average of 15 fps on medium settings, so it might perform slightly different under higher performance conditions. I'll send you the link when the basic aircraft has been finished. ( this does not include doors, windows, gear doors, and other aesthetics)

@klm747klm747 This isn't relevant to this post, however to set drag to 0 using overload, set the dragScale to 0. Make sure you press the tick to confirm your change . Also, you may need to turn the drag indicator off and on again, to recalculate the drag properly and show the correct readings. I'm looking forward to the finished plane!

The simplest I can do for you is this: CLICK ME

Its actually two "doors" and each one requires 3 rotators. One goes up and is hidden within the plane while the other extends outward and is seen.
