I think my PC just exploded.

So, it's four AM, and i'm playing skyrim, like you do, and from the direction my PC is in I hear a loud Bang! Shutting down the system and taking off the side-panel everything is in order. No blown capacitors, no random burning things. The motherboard is fine, both my HDDs work, and my DVD drive isn't even plugged in. I don't have a graphics card and I wasn't even doing any intensive fighting. It boots fine and all drives and data is there. I'm guessing it's the power supply that went kaboom. How long do I have before my PSU gives up the ghost and dies? Any good cheap power supplies I can get that support my PC and have expansion? This probably Isn't the right Spot for this, but i'm kinda desperate.

EVGA seem to have decent, cheap psus? Depends on the wattage u need tho. For me new pc I'm going 500w for like 40€

I dragged an old PSU out of my box o' junk and now that the Not exploded psu is in, whenever i open skyrim after going out of a tab it freaks out and the only way to get it to stop is to shut the pc down. when i put the old psu in it works fine

Yeah, The only light bulbs i have are in my ceiling fan and desk lamp, and they are all okay. My dad wasn't in the room, so i doubt it was a fart. I mean, it was Loud. Even over pink floyd and skyrim it nearly knocked me out of my chair.

But you should probably check the PSU thoroughly

I'm only saying that a bad PSU can damage other components, I'm not saying your PSU has gone bad. For all I know, the noise could have been a fart. But if your PSU does go bad, replace it.

@Squirrel Know any good corsair PSU's for a relatively low price

It sounds like a power supply issue. If your computer won't start up at all (no lights, fans spinning up, etc, then it's highly likely that's your problem. I advise salvaging another PSU from another computer (temporarily) just to clarify though. PSUs are pretty standard components, so I wouldn't worry too much about compatibility.
    .
If the computer works with the surrogate PSU, then buy a new PSU that matches the power rating (Watts) of that stated on the broken one. Then obviously put the other PSU back into the functional computer.

You guys are both giving me seriously mixed messages. BAC is saying it's fine and you can run it 'til the magic smoke comes out, and F104 is saying it'll melt stuff. I've opened the PSU cover and there doesn't seem to be anything out of place, but it HAD to have come from my PC because the only other thing plugged in is my TV, and i'd think I know where sounds come from.

Power supply is one component you can't ignore. If it fails it can literally melt sensitive hardware in your computer. Thankfully, they're not as expensive as CPU or graphics cards.
