So, guys, I'm sure you guys have heard that one of my buddies, @CptJacobson, is joining the US Army. I just wanted to get this information out because there's not a lot of recognition for our veterans out there. Especially Vietnam Vets. They deserve recognition more than anyone. They were shunned upon coming back, being called 'baby murderers' and whatnot. This guy, CptJacobson, is ready to go off to bootcamp. Please wish him luck, as he is joining infantry. For those of you who don't know what infantry is, it's basically combat. Just give him appraisal for his decision.
@CptJacobson ok, best of luck my friend. Just know that you will go to whatever unit the army wants you at, dont get your hopes up to go to 101. I'm currently in the 101st CAB in Afghan, it's not like it used to be. Infantry only supports us if aircraft goes down, they pull security. The only DELOPS that happen anymore are SF, Ranger reg, and ANA.
i have talked to a recruiter and the reason i got infantry is because i have freinds in the army that i talk to when i can and also my familys had 4 generations in the Army as Infantry im the 5th generation to join so my fate was sealed @bcook333

@Jim1the1Squid I understand hes told you this, and maybe he hasn't talked to a recruiter or anything yet, but everything he has said has been completely ill informed. I'm in aviation, with current conflicts infantry only really deploys to support us if a aircraft goes down. Kicking down doors is a thing of the past currently.

So to clarify what I'm saying... 1: what contract is 6 months?... 2: how do you have deployment orders for a unit without making it through basic.. wait a minute let me rephrase that, making it TOO basic yet.... Yes you can wishlist a duty station but ffs dont go telling people you're gonna deploy with the 101st when you have no clue this is gonna happen, typical boot stuff my man

its typical talk before you walk scenario. I did the same thing when i was 18 prior to entering the police academy. I went around telling everybody when i was accepted and what department I would work for. When you grow up and enter the adult world you learn thats not how things go. hes just having fun prior to the cookout, which is why i said dont forget your stress card. the US military used to issue stress cards you could pull if your superiors were being “too hard” on you. @bcook333

@CptJacobson so are you reserve or national gaurd? How do you have deployment orders without even being at your gaining duty station? What basic are you going to?
