Is there a way to brake ONE wheel?

446 NsNidPL  5.9 years ago

Hi. I am planning to make a taildragger plane with a tailskid, so I can't turn using the tailskid and I need to brake one (resizable) wheel to turn. How do I do that? Or is there other solution how to efficiently turn without a tailwheel?

    @NsNidPL you actually can by nudging two rotators with it's input set to pitch and yaw

    Oh. ya. Hopefully 1.8 @NsNidPL

    @SPCWorkshops I'm not talking about the tail itself, I'm talking about it's control surfaces. You cannot make one control surface controlled by yaw and pitch at once.

    Im pretty sure you can make v-shaped tails. Just edit the rotation using fine tuner or the in-game editor. However there is a rotation bug where if you slide it all the way it will be a point degree off. But that is also getting fixed in 1.8. @NsNidPL

    @exosuit I used that method in this airplane: https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/ujui5C/Fokker-F-VII

    @NsNidPL what do you mean by that?

    @exosuit thanks, but I already figured out on how to do this: put a very small wheel on the tailskid and make it same color so it blends in

    @NsNidPL just set a piston with hemisphere with alot of friction with input set to yaw, then nudge it inside the main gear

    @exosuit you misunderstood my question. I do NOT have a tail wheel what means I have to brake left or right wheel depending on the direction I want to turn.

    You can try only making the rear wheel brake by setting the brakeTorque on the front wheels to 0

    @jamesPLANESii that's great! SP is already very awesome... I'm wondering what will they add!

    Nope. The devs are working on 1.8 right now. :D @NsNidPL

    Break = snap something
    Brake: A disk behind a wheel that slows it down

    @jamesPLANESii it should be added so you also can do V-shaped tails (mixed yaw and pitch)

    Gee I wish there was...
    Hey @AndrewGarrison do you reckon you could make it so you have the ability change the input for brakes in 1.8? And maybe add the ability for two inputs on stuff? It'd be a lifesaver... :D
