In the 1950s, many NATO aircraft were armed with air to air rockets...just like in SP, they were unguided...the intent of the rockets were to launch a large barrage against massed Soviet bombers; the F-86D Sabre Dog, F-89 Scorpion, F-94 Starfire, CF-100 Canuck and F-102 Delta Dagger were all armed with FFARs (Folding Fin Aerial Rockets). However, in SP, rockets stubbornly remain an air to ground weapon, in spite of any modification in Overload or to the XML files. I've tried to shoot down larger aircraft in SP using rockets and succeeded a couple of times, but it really would be much easier (though still very difficult) if one could ID and follow targets, which requires the ability to activate rockets with the "Air to Air" button.
@ChiyomiAnzai Actually it uses guided cannonballs.
@WNP78 WW2 DOGFIGHT doesn't allow me to use guided missiles.
@WNP78 @ChiChiWerx I played WW2 DOGFIGHT many times.Every times I tries shooting planes in different ways(for example turrets). However, while using Rockets,The only things I can do is
(1)turn to AirToGround mode and using Rockets.
(2)AG1 fires Rockets.Set selfDestructTimer.
Yes
I Do this in Warthunder, Strap some HVAR's & abuse Tu-4's
Yeah, Im taking a little break though @Minecraftpoweer
@CRJ900Pilot sooooo.... things still going smoothly for you?
True @Minecraftpoweer
@CRJ900Pilot yeah but we should still get the "function" property for rockets and bombs, it would just be more convenient.
Use an AA missile but disable it’s target tracking. It will fly straight but and in theory lock on, but it won’t follow the target
But yeah, rockets are hardcoded to be A2G.
For a quick bodge, you could disable the guidance on an A2A missile by setting the manoeuvrability characteristics (
maxHeadingAngleAdjustmentRate
andmaxVelocityAngleAdjustmentRate
to 0). Would still require a lock to fire but you could make it instant 360 lock I guess.@randomusername in case I caused you to think "whaaa….?", the idea was that if you put enough rockets in the air (say 20-120 rockets) and enough bombers are there in the air approximately in front of you, chances were better than not that you might hit a bomber or two. Besides, that's how guns work, it's just done on a rocket scale (fewer projectiles, bigger boom).
@randomusername they were unguided in the 1950s as well.
