Thank you all for participating in the Air Defence Challenge. I've got plenty of great entries, and had a lot of fun judging them. Entries that have scored the same amount of points are placed in random order. Here are the results:
1: ##2S38 Derivatsiya PVO by Leehopard
Design: 10/10
Performance: 9.5/10
Build quality: 9.5/10
Personal Impression: 5/5
Description: 10/10
Total: 44/45
Notes: I literally couldn't find a flaw with this entry beside not being able to climb as steep as I expected. A number of brand new innovative mechanisms have been installed, it uses proximity detonation ammo and guided ammo like the real one, it performs wonderfully both on the runway and off-road, turret has gyro traverse yet locks back into place when not in use, tracks follow the terrain perfectly, video in description has left me wanting a sequel... I'm impressed.
2: ##Pantsir-S1 "Track-Master" by BogdanX
Design: 9.5/10
Performance: 8.5/10
Build quality: 8.5/10
Personal Impression: 5/5
Description: 9/10
Total: 41.5/45
Notes: I've tested the version with pitch and roll controls. Very part-efficient build, with some cool features. Chassis performs exceptionally well. 360° lock is out of place, as the radar doing the "locking" is the front one, not the rotating one. Guns reliably hit the target, and so do missiles.
3: ##S-400 Triumf by CoolPeach
Design: 8/10
Performance: 9/10
Build quality: 10/10
Personal Impression: 5/5
Description: 9/10
Total: 41/45
Notes: Drives well, looks amazing, and missiles work as expected. Chassis is too fast though, reaching 145km/h, and the system is somewhat oversized.
4: ##FIM-92 Stinger by SpiritusRaptor
Design: 10/10
Performance: 8/10
Build quality: 7.5/10
Personal Impression: 5/5
Description: 3/10
Total: 38.5/45
Notes: Ingenious design. Last thing I was expecting was a soldier with MANPADS. Only major flaw I found is that custom sights don't match the lock circle. Very nice missiles. Lock range is a bit too long, real Stinger being able to engage at around 7800m.
5: ##Pars 6x6 SHORAD by DeathStalker627
Design: 9/10
Performance: 7/10
Build quality: 8/10
Personal Impression: 5/5
Description: 9/10
Total: 38/45
Notes: A very nice, realistic system. Only major design flaw are two antennas sticking out behind the turret, as they would obstruct the field of fire. Radar spins backwards when retracted, and missiles occasionally overmaneuver at launch, hitting the ground if launched at low angle. Impressive description.
6: ##Flakpanzer Gepard by BoganBoganTheMan
Design: 10/10
Performance: 7/10
Build quality: 8/10
Personal Impression: 4.5/5
Description: 7.5/10
Total: 37/45
Notes: Very well made system, with nice details, nice custom missiles, and nice tracks. Only major flaw is the control scheme. With Trim for elevation, I can't use mouse as joystick, mouse having to be on one side of the screen to control trim (keyboard trim has too large increment). That makes aiming with guns very difficult.
7: ##M985 VULCAWS by Pilotmario
Design: 9/10
Performance: 8.5/10
Build quality: 5/10
Personal Impression: 5/5
Description: 9/10
Total: 36.5/45
Notes: Big "build quality" penalty for wheels not being attached to the engine. I have tested the fixed version, and found that chassis handles as one would expect from such a vehicle. Very nice turret design, with a nice, although somewhat too exposed gunner seat. Inverted elevation input was a bit difficult to use, but this system does kill planes.
8: ##VTU-80SA1 'Longreach' 75mm SPAA by ChunderDownUndeR
Design: 9.5/10
Performance: 4/10
Build quality: 8.5/10
Personal Impression: 4/5
Description: 10/10
Total: 36/45
Notes: A great looking system, with a great presentation. VTOL + Trim turret controls, paired with its low rate of fire and lack of guided munitions makes it nearly impossible to hit any airborne target even head-on. I'd expect wheel turning rather than differential turning on a wheeled chassis, and the chassis can reach speeds in excess of 100km/h stated in description.
9: ##K.Corp KL-23 Sentinel by KRAYTEK999
Design: 9.5/10
Performance: 7.5/10
Build quality: 7/10
Personal Impression: 4/5
Description: 8/10
Total: 36/45
Notes: The build weers hard to the right while accelerating, which took off some performance and quality points. Also, it brakes way too hard, and elevation of the system is too quick. Other than that, performs as expected. Looks very nice, drives well, and has nice custom missiles.
10: ##S-150 (SA-2 Griswall) by ErvenDynamics
Design: 8/10
Performance: 8/10
Build quality: 9/10
Personal Impression: 4.5/5
Description: 6.5/10
Total: 36/45
Notes: Very nice S-75 ripoff. It should have had more elevation and the missile is a bit too maneuverable for its type, but performs well other than that. Custom missile is well-made, and so is the launch ramp. Description could use more graphic presentation.
11: ##ZiS-12(25-SE) by Kimcotupan15
Design: 8/10
Performance: 7/10
Build quality: 9/10
Personal Impression: 5/5
Description: 6/10
Total: 35/45
Notes: Very well made system, with lots of details and low part count. Chassis is too fast, but otherwise performs well. Gun traverse stabilization is unrealistic for this type of build. Description could use some pictures.
12: ##D.Corp Dragon by Dllama4
Design: 6.5/10
Performance: 7.5/10
Build quality: 7/10
Personal Impression: 4/5
Description: 9/10
Total: 34/45
Notes: Truck is very mobile, although suspension is pretty stiff. CIWS has very limited field of fire. Crew entrance should have been behind the seats to save room. System reliably hits targets.
13: ##Rainier Jaeger A-AADS by JohnnyBoythePilot
Design: 5/10
Performance: 7/10
Build quality: 6/10
Personal Impression: 3/5
Description: 10/10
Total: 32/45
Notes: Chassis looks like it would snap under the mass of everything piled on top of it, and trailer tow bar looks flimsy. Also, the system is heavily overarmed. Chassis flips too easily without a gyro. System reliably destroys targets.
14: ##BTR-98 SPADS by FairFireFight
Design: 7/10
Performance: 7/10
Build quality: 6.5/10
Personal Impression: 4/5
Description: 7/10
Total: 31.5/45
Notes: Nice looking build, although it could have been more detailed. Vehicle is too fast and brakes too hard, but is pretty decent otherwise. Turret features unedited missiles, forcing the user to carefully track the target, but turret sensitivity is such that it's not difficult. Gun does its job well. Shells are a nice touch.
15: ##Skywarden Air Defence Turret by EliteArsenals24
Design: 7.5/10
Performance: 6/10
Build quality: 5/10
Personal Impression: 3/5
Description: 9/10
Total: 30.5/45
Notes: A nice stationary turret. I'm not sure what two huge landing hooks are doing sticking out from the turret, so I counted them as an error. Miniguns are unnecessary and don't even have elevation, making them nearly useless. Nice custom sight.
16: ##ZSU-23-4 Shilka by Bukkeum
Design: 7/10
Performance: 7/10
Build quality: 8/10
Personal Impression: 4/5
Description: 4/10
Total: 30/45
Notes: Recognizable design, decent amount of details, and good gun play. It could use a custom crosshair. Chassis isn't too comfortable to drive, and turret traverse doesn't lock for transit.
17: ##Flakpanzer IV "Wirbelwind" by DarDragon
Design: 7/10
Performance: 6/10
Build quality: 7.5/10
Personal Impression: 4/5
Description: 4/10
Total: 28.5/45
Notes: Somewhat simple but accurate Wirbelwind. It is effective at shooting down aircraft thanks to the fact that it uses miniguns disguised as autocannons. Custom working tracks are very nice. Turret has some interior.
18: ##Bofors 40 mm L/90X by SnoWFLakE0s
Design: 7.5/10
Performance: 2/10
Build quality: 6.5/10
Personal Impression: 3/5
Description: 9/10
Total: 28/45
Notes: A pretty well made trailer-based system. Retracting wheels are a very nice touch. Range is too short though. Should have been edited. Also, one person controlling elevation and another controlling the travers would be a bit awkward.
19: ##sa-8 by Akhtar04
Design: 7/10
Performance: 6/10
Build quality: 6/10
Personal Impression: 4/5
Description: 4.5/10
Total: 27.5/45
Notes: Build is oversized, and chassis is too fast. Weapon system works well, although I'd go for greater traverse and wider lock circle.
20: ##Type 03 Chu-SAM: Launcher Unit by BlazeInfinity
Design: 7/10
Performance: 3/10
Build quality: 4.5./10
Personal Impression: 3.5/5
Description: 8/10
Total: 26/45
Notes: Good looking system. It is somewhat oversized, and difficult to aim. Steps for accessing the cabin obstruct the driving on rough terrain. Hinges of the erector system should have been edited to move in only one direction. Nice THAAD ripoff.
21: ##XM-119 Slinger SPAAG by ProjectTank
Design: 6.5/10
Performance: 5/10
Build quality: 6/10
Personal Impression: 2/5
Description: 6/10
Total: 25.5/45
Notes: Design is plausible but oversized. Vehicle performs terribly, having too high top speed and too hard braking. Turret uses the gyro traverse system which is good, but it doesn't lock for transit. Not much is custom, and miniguns are visible. Tracks are very simple.
22: ##Sapience Tech "Sweeper" ADS by ThomasRoderick
Design: 6/10
Performance: 5/10
Build quality: 6.5/10
Personal Impression: 2/5
Description: 6/10
Total: 25.5/45
Notes: Nice looking turret, although barrels are too long and the radar looks more like a naval navigation radar. Color is so dark it's difficult to see the features. Custom crosshair should have been paired with the cockpit and limited missile lock angle. Aiming would have been easier with Pitch + Roll setup.
23: ##FlaKpanzer KW88 by GeneralOliverVonBismarck
Design: 5/10
Performance: 5/10
Build quality: 6.5/10
Personal Impression: 2/5
Description: 5.5/10
Total: 24/45
Notes: System is overarmed and guns themselves are overpowered. 360° lock is out of place. Chassis rides quite smoothly even on rough terrain, but it has too much power and speed isn't limited. It can also flip forward while braking, as brakes are too strong.
24: ##SX 1200 CADS by kshatria
Design: 5/10
Performance: 6/10
Build quality: 6/10
Personal Impression: 3/5
Description: 2/10
Total: 23/45
Notes: Four gatlings in a single system is a bit unrealistic. It would be impossible to feed them for an extended period.Trailer is a bit too wide for the road. It has a great fire saturation, but range of the guns is unedited, limiting it to very short range (around 2.5km). Turret interior is a nice touch.
25: ##SS-AAS.1 Valiroi Mactuber Anti-Air System by UnguidedCylinder
Design: 5/10
Performance: 4/10
Build quality: 6/10
Personal Impression: 2/5
Description: 5/10
Total: 22/45
Notes: Build is oversized, but does have some nice details, and is clearly inspired by British Rapier system. Quality is nice, with custom sight, custom missiles, and a fancy spinning disco ball. It shouldn't have 360° lock though.
coming soon:
@EternalDarkness i had no idea whatmi was doing when it came to this and sorry about the color scheme it just happened i forgot to switch it to something else
@BlazeInfinity well, it needs a lock-on to fire. 60° would be great. Or 45°. The kind of angle at which the radar would allow it to launch.
Reeeee it's not a THAAD!
Also, difficult to aim? It shouldn't aim in first place to be realistic. I only added the SPG like aiming for newbies

It isn't really. Like i said, it mostly out of sheer laziness.
@88blaroo trying matters a lot. You've gotten feedback on it, so now you know how to make a much better system next time. Also, what I forgot to tell you is that colors you used are really off-putting. Dark base against the dark background, with eyesore green drums of extra ammo. You should work a bit on that.
@ChunderDownUndeR you should have mentioned that in description. You would have gotten a higher quality and performance mark, though I didn't take out a lot from that anyway, not being sure if it's a feature.
@JohnnyBoythePilot systems operating such small missiles are usually light and mobile, meant to be at the very front line with troops to protect against drones and helicopters. This truck is too big for that, and would do area defence. In area defence role, any missile with the range of under 20km is useless. Furthermore, your system is not even independent, which frontline systems need to be. It needs a separate radar and command vehicle, as it doesn't appear to have a potent enough search radar and control room.
@EternalDarkness will keep in mind if I decide to build another SAM system
well already knew you would not really like mine but hey atleast i tryed i guess
Cheers for the results.
Not to try and correct my points bc im very happy with my position. But just two things:
Its based on the AMX-10RC Hull which has tank-like turning not using steering wheels to turn without needing movement. Which i too was surprised by. Legititmately i didnt have enough gap between wheel and hull to make turning sockets.
A tried to be different with a heavy gun instead of rapid fire spam or missiles. And maybe in hindsight i should of adjusted more of the lessen the spread and more gun velocity (1400m/s seemed realistic)
Either way im very happy of my position and to of partaken in such a competition. Cheers!
@EternalDarkness
Oh I think I know what you mean with the suspension looking weak. Is it because they are mounted directly to the bed of the truck and not an individual chassis/frame beneath the bed? In that case, yea I guess it does look a little flimsy.
@EternalDarkness
Well when you put it that way, yea I guess it is a little over-the-top with the amount of missiles it carries (and 3 types!). But it is a flexible platform and can be configured with various weapon load outs depending on the mission. It doesn't exactly have to carry all those various missiles. I'm not saying you should have removed some of the stuff if you considered the configuration a flaw, but I'm just saying that isn't the Jaeger's only configuration. Oh and those HVMM's should be a lot cheaper than an AIM-9, especially an AIM-120, but then again they only have a max realistic range of 3-5 miles around the launcher/host. (yes I know they had 20 miles of range in my entry making them over-the-top-OP, but that was because of a xml glitch with the AIM-9's xml values)
@UnguidedCylinder no problem. Your entry was perfectly acceptable. It would be great if it was smaller.
@JohnnyBoythePilot I said that the chassis wouldn't hold the system because the chassis is segmented instead of being one single tubular or frame chassis. Weak spots are right in front and behind the system. Also, a spam of small missiles wouldn't be effective, as there's too many of them, making reloading too expensive for the kind of system that is expected to spend four to five missiles per sortie.
@DeathStalker627 no problem.
A lot of awesome builds here, congratulations to everyone who entered 🙌
Next time I’ll make sure the engines are attached to the wheels lol. @EternalDarkness
Thanks for letting me in @EternalDarkness
13rd place isn't too bad. I was kind of expecting to get a little higher on the score board though. Not a win as their were far better entries than mine, but maybe around like 10 or 9. I personally thought the suspension looked fine and fairly beefy, and the real-world C-RAM system is mounted on a flat-bed trailer. In regards to it being "overarmed", there are other real CIWS systems out their that are both gun and missile systems that share the same turret, unless your talking about the relatively over-powered micro-missiles. But by far the biggest flaw with my entry was the ridiculously high CG. I mean even without the Jaeger system, the Grizzly MPAT-V overall just has a high-CG, and it being my first serious vehicle, I don't exactly know how to correct it without a gyro. But Leehopard totally deserved that win. His build was definitely impressive!
@EternalDarkness Ah,I forgot about those Antennas. They meant for IFV version.Anyways thanks alot !
@EternalDarkness Yea I definently see, and props to you for not just cancelling the challenge because you couldn't bother judging all entries. Also it's suprising he is the only one who used proximity rounds.
@Minecraftpoweer yeah, my challenges tend to attract a lot of entries. I always try to make them as professionally as possible, considering what's lacking on the site, what people want to build, and that I've proven myself competent in making, and thus judging creations of that kind.
Leehopard's build really is incredible. His is the only high-caliber entry that has actual guided and proximity fused rounds.
You made a challenge so large and popular you needed 2 forums for the reusults damn. Also I agree with the 1st Place you gave….. Using winches to reset a gyro turret, truly unique and creative. I love the idea.
@JohnnyBoythePilot @EliteArsenals24 I'm glad you enjoyed the challenge.
