A lot of posts have been made on the forums about multiplayer on SP. I'd like to address some points about it.
1. Multiplayer=/=Combat goodness-The only viable weapons against planes are rockets/manually guided missiles. Unless you get a perfect lock on the target from behind it's very unlikely you'll be able to hit anything. The plane is moving, so you have to aim in front of it.
2. "Formation Flying"-With any amount of lag, or high server latency formation flying will be hard, but not impossible.
3. The technical problems-It's hard to make a multiplayer game. The devs have worked on it and posted a preview on reddit, but problems exist. I still believe the devs are able to do it.
4. The small problems-Trolling, NSFW planes, etc will be as active as ever if multiplayer is released. What if someone is just sitting on a runway, making it impossible for anyone else to fly? What if someone made big letters spelling out inappropriate words?
5. Decisions, decisions-Will it be held on a server or a local network? Will the servers be official servers only or can other people have servers too? What'll be the max plane limit?
As you can see, multiplayer isn't that simple. It involves lots of time, planning, and possibly money(for servers).
@JovianPat Ya know, custom spawn points exist. Not like hogging the runway isn't retarded, but if people are dumb, find a way to ignore em.
Especially right now, during Coronavirus outbreak and stay at home orders, Multiplayer SimplePlanes would attract many people because creativity and interact with people. I know it would be very hard, but what if the devs released "alpha multiplayer" or "beta multiplayer" to the SP public that can be run off peoples computers, because they do have a early version, why not release it to the public and say that there may be bugs and lag? I do sound like one of those people being like "ADJ MULTIPLAYERSB DEVBS!" but I do understand the mechanical, cost, physical, and computing perspectives. I have a recent post on a thing that explains some of stuff.

@RocketLL
Youre right, but i believe that the SP community is very nice, so there wont be that much trolling. You could also make an option to set a max. part and player count or part lengh, so lag-free games would be possible. You could also make every player who wants to play online pay 1 or 2 $/euros/whatever per month. Im sure there is a way to make online playing possible, even if its full of obstacles (-:
Suspend inappropriate users from multiplayer, if they do it again, ban them from multiplayer. Also, we could have a combat( proper guns allowed) and non combat(if we wanted to race each other or just do stunts together) servers. If you added multiplayer there would be new players. Yes, the connection and lag might be a problem but still.
I know there are a lot of problems but you just have to think about what would attract new customers To this game and not another game and multiplayer is very attractive to someone just looking for a game to play in their spare time.
honestly theres way more things I want than multiplayer, they should make it as good as they can before going on, as you said, a very long trip to make a multiplayer.
Excellent points
@qazproductions Or if someone waits on the runway for too long he/she will get kicked out of the server.
I do believe that planes on runways should be no-clipped, which would probably solve the issue of trolls blocking the runways.
Why can't there be multiplayer on mobile that can connect to Xbox my best friend is on Xbox 😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞 X100
@Allstar I know!!! all these ppl who nothing about what it takes to implement multiplayer in a game saying "HAI YO SU PDEVS PUT IN MERTEPLEYERR" I always have to explain the costs and how hard it would be
Finally, someone talking about multiplayer in a sensible and explanatory way
If this happens, people will just troll other people by going into the peaceful server and gunning everybody down, and if there is a war server, I will make a shotgun lol
Also, here is the preview for those of you who missed it
@Delphinus hahaha my phone has half of the minimum RAM, multiplayer is never happening for me. I'm not too worried about it, though - it doesn't take away from the rest of the game, it just means I can't join in with that particular part. It's no loss.
@AgDynamics not to mention people making planes that would purposely lag
Ironic.... Not so simple multiplayer planes!! XD
The chaos of multiplayer is exactly what interests me about multiplayer. With only improvised weapons and (I'm assuming) no way to keep people from using XML-modified parts, I'm predicting a kind of arms race to find the most effective weaponry and the fastest, most maneuverable planes.
Sure, you can drop bombs on the carriers or hit them pretty accurately with missiles, but another plane being actively flown by another person is a completely different story. Honestly for the foreseeable future the most effective weapon will probably be ramming. I don't know about you guys, but the idea of everybody flying around in super-fast jets trying to smash into each other sounds like a whole lot of fun to me.
To combat the amount of inevitable ramming and to appease those users who don't want to be blown up or harassed, two servers could be set up: One with plane-to-plane collision, and one without. With no collision between planes you would be safe from other pilots and their weapons, free to fly around the islands peacefully with others.
The server with collision would basically be a free-for-all demolition derby. There would be alliances and rivalries and dogfights and sometimes peace, but mostly just chaos.
Better than "We need multiplayer, give us multiplayer!"
It's about time somebody posts a forum talking about the disadvantages and troubles of multiplayer.
