I'm going to break down a couple of aspects of this game for some of you guys. It might be beneficial to those of you who do not get the amount of downloads and votes that you would like.
-There are two different aspects of this game that should be addressed. There is the actual building of the designs. And there is the social aspect. You need to be really good at one or the other in order to progress through the points system. You can either build really great stuff or you can work at building social relationships with members of the community.
-You really need to be pretty good at both of those in order to progress as you would like. If you build mediocre designs then they aren't going to get that much attention. All of you guys can see the amount of work and detail that gets put into some of the highest rated designs. That sort of product comes with dozens of hours of time spent in the editor per build. It's unreasonable to expect a bunch of votes on something that took you a relatively small amount of time compared to more technically impressive builds. Many of us can go into the editor and slap some wings on a fusilage and call it good. But that isn't going to cut it if you're looking to make a name for yourself here.
-Build something that hasn't been done over a hundred times. And put as much thought and detail into the design as you can. If you are going to make a popular plane, you need to try to do it better than anyone else has. There are some fantastic replicas in this site, so you know what degree of work needs to be put into something to have it stand apart.
-Also, get out there and vote planes. Leave comments too, a vote is nice but a vocal opinion goes much farther. Strike up a conversation with the people here. Start building some type of digital friendship. You can't expect people just to flock to your page and vote your stuff if you haven't put the time and energy into the editor as well as the community.
-Yes, some great designs do fly under the radar. That does happen occasionally. But, you cannot expect people to come to your page and vote your stuff if there isn't much about it that sets it apart, as well as you not having done anything to make a connection with other users.
-I hope this helps some of you understand where you are at in this community, and I hope it helps some of you understand what you need to do in order to make an impression.
-Build the best that you can, put more time into it than you need to. Some of the great builders have set the bar pretty high. That's what you should strive to reach. And it won't happen overnight. But if you don't push yourself to get better... none of us are going to. Especially if you haven't made the effort to let us know you even exist.
-Your experience here is what you make it. And not a touch more.
yeah the bar is really high I'm not even halfway (I agree with point 4 btw)
Really not trying to brag here but how I got my colossal amount of positive feedback on my MI-12 homer is probably because when I searched it on SP and it only one came up and it was really old. So you are very true in saying that to get good feedback if you build what no one else is building.
Great points! my views and ideas about the game have been changing drastically since i first joined. At first I was very confussed about mods and how some ppl got to use things the game didnt allow. However the more i learned(forums, downloading high lvl players planes and studying them, messing around in xml code) the more i realized thie more a person is willing to put in and learn the funner this game is. Its hard not to be sidetracked by wanting votes on my designs but the way this game allows us to use our imagination with ever reduced boundries(thx to modding and xml!). This is my favorite game!
Phew, this struck up a pretty good conversation here. I spent ages to get down here.
I made a decent plane, which ACTUALLY FLEW.. And I got 10 up-votes! It was in the hottest and highest rated planes for the day that it was out, and it was up-voted from some golds and platinum!
Please check out my newest plane as I have put loads of effort and detail into it and do not want it to go under the radar as you were saying.

Well said.
All of this is definitely true. I usually prefer going with the editor, because I'm pretty lame at social stuff... If I tried going social, I might get somewhere, but at this point, I don't really have the time to do social things often. Plus, I actually like playing around in the editor, and with the dimension of XML modding, I'll be able to further it. I'm still kinda restricted, though... For one, neither iOS or OS X can run mods, and my Ipad mini 1st gen can only do basic XML modding due to the fact it's a mobile device(and my primary source for XML modding). But given a computer and a jailbroken iOS device is a luxury among certain users, I'm not that bad off. But yeah, not that great with social media. I'm ok with talking to some people(mainly in my BSCN roleplay), but I'm kinda a shy person. I'm pretty bad at making friendships unless they are people similar to me.
I am friendly that's true @YoYoJ16
@YoYoJ16 good to hear that, hopefully you have really changed, look forward to seeing better planes from ya
@AgnesDesign nah I just think @YoYoJ16 @Ilovesthecheeses have some serious attention seeking disorder and need to see a psychiatrist or they get bullied in school and try to seek glorification online...
@TheLatentImage haha I think the disagreement is between the people who want attention but can't built good enough planes to get it against everyone else who won't upvote a lousy plane
I some times see about 100 downloads on one on my good planes and 2 upvotes and im like whaaaa then I realize people are flying my planes...
Everyone has to start somewhere... All the high point ppl where once low points, if you can build something like this I'm sure you'll get a bunch of upvotes... @yoyoj16
@YoYoJ16 I think you are seeing more to a situation than there is to it. There isn't a disagreement between users on this site. People of all ranks feel as of their stuff is under appreciated. The subject of the topic of this forum post is directed to everyone, regardless of score. There are people who make childish posts about why they aren't getting enough upvotes and such. And there are people that want them to stop. But there is no score number separating the two. If a user feels like they aren't being given enough attention then it's probably because they haven't done at least one of the two things I addressed in this posting. There isn't a battle, a disagreement or any of that. There are people that need to try harder in the editor and in building digital friendships. And there are those that want them to do that instead of complaining and making forum posts about it.
We are here for the love of the game. I quite frankly enjoy downloads more, because you know people are using your creations. I think Jr's Great Lakes Freighter has over 11,000 downloads now. It wasn't always like this. Look at our first planes and understand that you get better with practice. No one starts out at the top. We've probably invested over a thousand hours of work in our creations.
@YoYoJ16 what disagreement?
@YoYoJ16 I have no idea what you're talking about. There is no battle, there are no sides. There is no disagreement between members of this community of any rank. Yes yes... follow the rules. Be respectful. Do that.
@AgDynamics I've been here 1 month! :P haha

OK but spread this saying 3 more ppl need to comment on my forum or I'm gone its easy to find
@Ilovesthecheeses it's okay if you don't have time, dude, just don't worry about being super-popular
