The group of islands of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina form a department of Colombia in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, 775 km from the north-east coast. The capital of this department is San Andrés. These islands have beaches considered to be the most beautiful in Colombia and even the Caribbean. Also, the archipelago has been declared a marine biological reserve and the Natural National Park of Old Providencia McBean Lagoon, which was created to protect its biodiversity. There are approximately 70554 inhabitants in the archipelago. The main language is Creole, Sanadresano, Spanish and English and the reggae culture is very important there.
