B1-PN-TB Medium Fighter (Birthday Special!)

2,407 TurtlePants  8 months ago

A B1-PN-TB of the Snowstone Air Cavalry flies fast and low over the tundra, firing rockets at practice tanks. The aircraft would later be outphased with new jets, sold off to a civilian owner, and later wrecked in a crash.

Design History:

Based off the popular B1-PN-A airframe, the B1-PN-TB (Twin Boom) already had a great starting point. A new request from the Snowstone Air Cavalry requested a newer fighter then the B1-PN-L fighters it was using, and so Imperial Aircraft works answered with an unorthodox new design. The wings had to be moved back to make the center of lift work with the newly offset center of mass, and the engine was mounted in a pusher configuration for less heat loss to the cold climate it flew in and to make room for a 60mm autocannon, rocket pod, and dual .50 cal machine guns boosting the original .303 calibers in the wings. Also added were flaps, increased armor, and airbrakes. With a stall of 70 mph and a top speed of 305 mph, it was a very capable fighter, intercepter, or attack aircraft that remained in service from late 2399 G.T. to 2414 G.T.

Operational History:

Although mostly too late to see combat in the Three Year’s War other than occasional patrol skirmishes, it rarely saw combat later than that. However, it was used as an effective spotter and patrol aircraft with its large fuel capacity. It was only after an incident with a no-fuel landing that the strange load out took its toll, since without fuel or frontal armament it happens to be a little tailheavy. Other than that, they served with only two combat casualties and are a popular aerobatic aircraft today.

Controls:

VTOL down for flaps.
AG1 for airbrakes.
Retracting landing gear deactivates nose wheel steering.
Controls are standard otherwise.

Notes:

  • Decided to release this on my birthday as a filler post, uproots are appreciated! (Yes my birthday is April 1, yes, you can make/call me a joke of you want, I do it all the time.)
  • Don’t pitch down too hard at low speeds when your front tanks are mostly empty, you may do mild PSM stuff.
  • You don’t need to worry when braking, it can’t flip over because the front brake is modified.
    Remember to have fun!
