I2 Pistion Engine Plane

video of me building this engine

Info:

This is a very rudimentary plane designed to demonstrate the capabilities of piston engines in SimplePlanes, it is very slow and somewhat difficult to maneuver, but it's a lot of fun. In the future, I plan to make more planes revolving around these engines, a two engine design would be much more stable and torque less when taking off. Until then, I hope you enjoy this prototype.

Controls:

If you forget the controls, check craft instructions.

  • VTOL= Flaps
  • Trim= Prop pitch
  • Throttle= Engine speed
  • FireGuns= Starter (Use with throttle to start engine)
  • Pitch, Roll, Yaw, & Brake= Normal flight controls

how to fly:

  • Start putting up the throttle while holding space bar fireguns
  • Next start at default prop pitch, and then slowly increase moving trim up as the speed increases.
  • At this point, you should be able to pitch up a little bit and takeoff (Note: When increasing prop pitch, there's a very strong clockwise torque on the plane, you will have to adjust roll to counteract this force.)
  • Once you're flying, set the prop pitch to its maximum and you can adjust the flaps VTOL to use as trim. (Note: Climbing is slow, if you pitch up too steeply, it will stall.)

Enjoy!

@ChamDel78 Yes, I gave it lots of lift since it flys so slow. Although I don't think it climbs great.

    AYO
It flies so well, even slow

@Johnnyynf Yes, if I can download the limitlessspin mod that would open up many possibilities. Thanks for the heads up.

take a look on my piston engine and corresponding planes such as this
And try with limitlessspin because there's spin limit in this game that prevents things to spin fast

@Quercon These pistons only have two settings, moving in from the opposition and moving out from the in position so you can get this rotational motion with 180° of offset between the pistons, but if you offset them at some different angle, they will not work as far as I know. And the reason they fail at higher p.m. is probably because the rotors just won't let you spin any faster than a certain speed, which is kind of a sp bug. I set the piston speed to the maximum rotor speed so they shouldn't go too fast.

build really nice, though you need to offset the second piston a little, because engine tends to stall at higher rpm

@VenusLancer Yeah, the mechanical concept builds are some of my favorites.
