Mig-17

This model includes an all flying tail and split rudder.

Flies far better than any other Mig 15/17 on here, but you have to be easy on the stick at lower speeds.

@Mustang51 Alright thanks. You should make a high speed canyon racer btw.

@BillyTheKid1138 then just leave it how it is. It’s not worth overthinking. It will hardly change it at all if you add 500lbs to the front. You can also move the CoM of the engine at the back forwards using XML. That way you won’t add any “useless weight” but the CoM will still be forward enough of the CoL to make it stable. It’s a fighter meant for dogfighting which takes place at lower speeds usually so having better handling at lower speeds is important

@Mustang51 But I want to maintain the high speed pitch rate. Moving the CoM forward would make it more linearly stable and harder to pitch, as well as add more useless weight. I could change the range of motion on the stabilator so it wouldn't pitch to much at low speed, but then again I'm reducing the high speed pitch rate. So I need different ranges of motion on the stabilator for low and high speed.

@BillyTheKid1138 no it’s much more simple than that. You gotta move the CoM further away from the CoL. You can do this by adding weight to the front of the aircraft or removing it from the back. What I would do with xml editing is reduce the engine power lol

@Mustang51 I suppose with html editing, or whatever you use, it would be possible to scale the throw of the stabilator to the current air speed. That would cure the low speed instability right quick. Is that doable?

@BillyTheKid1138 buddy the pilot would legitimately die in that thing 😂

@Mustang51 So it is realism vs performance. And objectively measured my less accurate planes perform better. I think we are on the same page.

@BillyTheKid1138 it’s not about different goals. It’s about what constitutes as “better” since there is no objective answer when it comes to this. However, stating that your unrealistic plane flies better than realistic ones is objectively false as this is something which can be measured. When it comes to replicas, realism is better (hence the name replica)

@Mustang51 Obviously we have different goals. But my planes fly better.

@Mustang51 I have not found a plane of yours that even comes close to turning sharp enough to fly the canyon. Is this a modeling game or a flight game?

@Mustang51 Can your Mig fly through the canyon at 700 MPH?

@Mustang51 wish it were multiplayer so I could kick your Mig's ass in a dog fight. Which I would easily do because mine turns much sharper at high speeds. Realism aside.

@BillyTheKid1138 well not really since It doesn’t perform at all the way a real MiG-17 does. The MiG-17 also was not designed for supersonic flight. It’s max speed was around 700mph. It also isn’t very stable and stalls easier than many other mig-15/17s on this website, meaning it doesn’t handle better. It’s okay to be proud of your build but don’t overdo it.

@Mustang51 You have to be easy on the stick at low speeds. It was designed for super sonic flight. High turn rate means it's more maneuverable, meaning it handles better, realistic or not.

It looks alright but no, it does not fly better than any other MiG-15 or 17 on here. The turn rate is far too unrealistic (especially for the speeds which they are pulled at), it’s unstable and stalls immediately whenever harder pitch is induced while at a steep angle of bank, and it’s acceleration is much too fast. The CoM needs to be moved further up the aeroplane for it to be more stable. I will say it does look pretty good for a bronze user though.
