Yuyuko: "After fighting at the Lunar Capital, Youmu noticed her plane is not powerful as she thought, she said she was far weaker than your planes, so I gave her part of my power, however, I didn't expect such a dramatic change on her plane, her eyes are now yellow too, I have no idea what happened, but she sure has gotten stronger, her plane is very agile with very high firepower. If I fight with her, I would lose easily."

During the event of LoLK, Youmu's plane was still at stage 3 (very little changes from the previous stage) and only had Phantom katana as her weapon, while Reimu's plane and Marisa's plane are at stage 4 and Reisen's plane was upgraded to stage 2, all are very powerful with different weapons. During the fights, Youmu is actually the one being protected as her plane did very low damage on the lunar fighters, though others didn't mind, Youmu was haunted by the fact that she was weak afterward. After Yuyuko gave her a part of her power, Youmu's eyes turn yellow, aside from that, nothing else changed, well, that was what everyone thought. On a practice day not long after, when her phantom half transformed, it caught everyone even Youmu herself by surprise, no one knew its appearance would change so much, her plane is mostly black with yellow neon stripes, her phantom katana weapon also make purple slashes instead of the usual cyan. Youmu decided to leave Netherworld and went to Gensokyo for a test flight where she caught Reimu's and Marisa's attention. Pictures of her plane was taken and posted on the tengu's newspaper, even the aircraft designers at SAAC failed to identify her plane, but since it still has some characteristics of a flying wing, people simply call it a "Backward flying wing". Youmu was recuited at the beginning of Broken Border along with Reimu, Marisa, Sanae and Sakuya, her plane is the second most powerful plane of the group. During the war, she was sent to escort a weapon cargo plane that was being chased by 2 Japanese squadrons. Later while battling with the Orochi, Youmu's plane did the most damage to the Orochi since her weapons are purely energy.
