SWS Carisbrooke (MMB-01)
History
In mid-2019 the Saltwater Navy received a Little Rock-class dreadnought from the United States of Warburg. The vessel, although largely obsolete, had potential.
.
Its vintage boilers were removed and replaced with state-of-the-art gas turbines. One gun of each turret was replaced with a new 15" semi-nuclear cannon and two 4" semi-nuclear cannons were also fitted to provide a CIWS-type defence. Stern thrusters were fitted, giving the ship excellent manoeuvrablity. The largest modification of all was the removal of the aircraft catapults and their replacement with an "electronic warfare battle pod". This equipment can effectively shut down all electronic frequencies in a 70-mile radius, allowing the Carisbrooke and her escorts to operate unmolested in a contested environment.
.
The vessel has three primary missions.
1. To seize control of the electromagnetic spectrum in a war zone to prevent the enemy from operating effectively.
2. To provide gunfire support for invasion forces.
3. To coordinate a battle fleet in high-jamming environments.
.
The Carisbrooke's systems have been heavily shielded from her jamming equipment, but visual and IR tracking systems have been fitted to replace her gunnery radar. This equipment cannot be jammed or affected by her own systems and, through a refurbished operations room, allows the Carisbrooke to assist friendly units in navigating in her electronic "jamming bubble".
.
The SWS Carisbrooke is due to enter service by 17th September 2019.
