While no connection between the design of the He P.1080 SA ("Seltsamer Angreifer", or "Strange Attacker") and the Messerschmitt Me P.1106 has ever been made, it is clear that the former was based off of the latter design. After hearing that Messerschmitt was turned down for the competition for the Emergency Fighter Program, Heinkel decided to submit their own design. The He P.1080 SA was commissioned by a general named Freidrich Von Straußburg in early February of 1945, with a working prototype being flight-ready by March 27 that same year. Unfortunately for the P.1080 SA, the funding for the project was cut and one of the factories was bombed, and the aircraft was scrapped the following week. Luckily, a team from Aerostyle Aviation tracked down the blueprints for the aircraft, and the fully-functional airplane is now available for viewing at the Aerostyle Military Archive facility.
