In 1942, because the Ju 288 could not be put into production at this time, the prospects of the Ju 188 gradually became clear. At the same time, as the British Air Force and the Soviet Air Force gradually recovered, the Ju 88 at this time contained more luck in the mission. The German Aviation Ministry finally decided that a slightly improved new model based on the Ju 88B was worth a try, and asked Juncker to bring the improved version into production, which is now the Ju 188.The only Ju 88 E-0 model was modified for the armament system, with a 13 mm (.51 in) MG 131 heavy machine gun firing downward and rearward in the belly area and an MG 131 heavy machine gun in the nose. Machine gun, rear-firing twin-fired 7.92 mm (.312 in) MG 81Z machine gun mounted in the belly pod area. Two other airframes had their engines and outer wings removed to act as testbeds for water ditching, and were planned for use in Ju 188 as long-distance transoceanic flights against the British fleet. The fuselage of the second Ju 188 was modified from the Ju 88 A-4, and the trapezoidal vertical stabilizer surface was enlarged; the purpose was to increase the high-altitude flight control performance, requiring forward-looking performance like the Ju 88G.
