S-1 Dragonfly (WinWings Twin-Boom Challenge)
Information About the Dragonfly
The S-1 Dragonfly was designed in honor of the new zoom feature in SP, and is a fictional dedicated search and rescue aircraft. The unique twin-bubble cockpit gives each pilot an unparalleled view of the ground and sky. I uploaded this aircraft a bit early for the Twin Boom challenge, and it's a bit over the part count limit. Either way I figured I'd share my work on the S-1. Let's get into some of the unique features of this aircraft.
Features
Fully VR Compatible Cockpit
The Dragonfly comes equipped with a full-functioning VR cockpit for two pilots. All aircraft controls and functions can be controlled from either pilot's seat.
The screens in the cockpit can be turned off whenever to provided a more traditional/analog flying experience.
Rescue Drop Pods
If someone is spotted on the ground that needs assistance, the Dragonfly can drop survival pods from both twin booms.
These drop pods have flashing indicator lights and brightly colored parachutes, so they can be easily seen from the air or ground.
Auto-Trim and Flaps
Because of the placement of the engine, the S-1 has a CoT that is high above its CoM. I put in an auto-trim system that counteracts the resulting down-force of the engine throttling up without any manual input from the pilot. This system is very useful for take-off and landing.
The S-1 is equipped with standard flaps that can be controlled from the cockpit or with the VTOL slider.
Sick Butterfly Doors
Feel like a racecar driver with these totally unnecessary butterfly doors that open upward.
Conclusion
The Dragonfly is one of my more unique designs, and I hope you all enjoy flying it. As usual, feedback is always welcome, both positive and negative. This will help me build better aircraft in the future.
**NOTAMS regarding the S-1**
Avoid full stick up/down at lower air speeds, this will cause the aircraft to stall or nosedive uncontrollably
**AGs are as follows**
AG1 - Cockpit doors
AG2 - Cockpit MFDs
AG3 - Engine throttle toggle on/off
AG4 - Release Drop Pods
AG5 - Lights
Happy Flying!

Congratulation! @RKOdynamics, you are the WINNER for this Challenge. I have posted the trophy on my page. Very unique design, well thought out, love those pods that can drop down, and overall fantastic design. I am curious If you could make handling easier,,, Thanks!
@Winswings this is a really unique build. I really appreciate the labels over the top of the buttons for backlighting ! That is pretty ingenious. And the builder already mentioned the only problem I had. It was any oversticking winds up in the plane crashing. But boyis this a cool plane. I just wish it could be more stable.
@zaineman look at this super cool built!
Absolutely, I’ll link this build too. Nice build. @RKOdynamics
@Frisher yeah I’m a bit over the part count. I didn’t design this aircraft specifically for the challenge but figured I would show it off anyway for others to see. Most of the part count comes from the cockpit detailing.
Very cool plane, but didn't the challenge say max 100 blocks? It's extremely good either way
@Thorne Go for it! Feel free to snatch any components you like too, just give me some credit.
I wish it was in VR lol, I flew it on mobile; the switches and controls were easy to use and the visibility was great. The cockpit was really interesting; it felt exotic without feeling unrealistic. Would you mind if I took inspiration from this somewhere down the line? I really like it. It’s nicely thought out @RKOdynamics
Thanks so much! It’s a bit unique but I thought it was a cool design to try out. @AtlasMilitaryIndustries
Thanks for the feedback! @S1lly
@Thorne Thanks! Were you flying in VR? I don’t have a VR setup so I can’t test out the cockpit. Thanks for the feedback!
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed flying this. I can’t say that about many builds even if I liked them; this one was genuinely fun. The cockpit was wicked.
Simple but beautiful
I dont know why,but that must be the craft that made me smiles the most
The design is very strange, but I like it.
Unique and cool. I like it
The triple bubble style canopy looks so cool.
This is one of the strangest aircraft I've seen and I love it.
very cool, I wish you win! love it
