P-53 Lightningbolt

735 DeerForceOne  4.2 years ago

Powered by a 2625 horsepower engine with a 14.6 foot propeller and armed with 8x .50 cal machine guns and 2x 20mm cannons she was the largest, most powerful, and deadliest single-engined warbird in WWII. She excelled at high altitudes and had a great range. Although a brick at low speeds and altitudes, she becomes agile at those higher altitudes, where she was designated to fight. With her armaments she could bring down anything that flew. She was also one of the most robust planes of the era as well, just like her older counterpart, the P-47. Deployed to both the pacific and European theaters of war in 1946, she excelled, helping the allies to regain the upper hand.
