Vickers-Avalon Wardog NF. mk XI Night Fighter with Schraäge Musik (fictional)
(Fictional) The Vickers-Avalon Wardog NF. Mk XI was the very last of the Royal Air Force's piston engined night fighters. It was first designed in 1945 right after the surrender of Japan to the Allied forces. After having tested and flown one of Japan's finest heavy fighters, the ki 83, the Royal Airforce decided it needed a Twin-Engined Heavy Fighter that was fast and was able to do multiple roles. The Wardog rolled of the production line in 1950 and was originally used as a High Altitude interceptor. With the looming threat of the cold war, they later modified it for Anti-Submarine Operations. With the development of New Fighters such as the Sea Fury and Anti-Submarine Aircraft such as the Fairy Gannet. To add to that with the onset of the Jetage, the Royal Air Force saw no need to further develop the Wardog as an interceptor or Anti-submarine patrol aircraft. They did however see potential with the Final Variant of the Wardog, the Mk XI. The NF. Mk XI was then developed into a nightfighter to be used against the emerging threat of Soviet Heavy Bombers during the cold war. The Wardog NF mk XI Entered service in 1960 and served well into the early 70s. It was llater modified to carry and equip AIM 7D Air to Air Missiles in the mid 1960s to it's retirement in 1979.
