MG-5 'Mountain Goat' STOL

9,721 DownUnderWing  8.8 years ago

Based on the original piston engined tailwheel PC6. The MG-5 named 'Mountain Goat' is a STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) aircraft. It will become airbourne off the runway before the striped threshold when departing from Wright Airfield. The MG-5 is equipped with spoilers to allow for controlled slow approaches at 70mph with roughly 50% throttle to touchdown at 60mph. Pitch authority is very high to provide control at slow airspeeds. This allows for slow 3 point landings in the mountains on uneven and sloped hills or open patches of dirt/grass with minimal landing roll. The spoilers are controlled by the VTOL toggle down and linked to Action Group 2. Action Group 1 toggles tailwheel steering. The MG-5 will cruise at around 200mph. Keep speed above 70mph and climb speed above 80mph. Holds 28gal fuel and can easily take more however be careful not to affect the CofG and CofL relationship. Expect longer rollouts with more weight. Be light on the brakes as tailwheel aircraft are easy to tip forward! Land uphill in the mountains with power on and let the gradient of the hill slow you down.
